quite the shocker

something in my DJ practice system is a real shocker. Literaly! I'm guessing it's the Eico tube amp too. Picked it up from a garge sale for 10 bucks, and it doesn't have a grounded power cord. when it goes on, the mixer read outs peak out quickly, and than everything becomes electrified. And I mean everything, the mixer, both of the turntables, and the amp. This isn't a deadly shock, just enough to make you yelp kinda, but it still shouldn't be there!

if any of you have any insight on this I would love to hear it.

Most of these vintage components have been idle for years. Usually best to check them for dried, leaky and shorted capacitors. Thus, pluging them up for straight away usage is not the ideal thing, the instant current can severly damage the various capacitors and other electronic parts. Also, better to bring them up slowly with variable current.

You can try reversing the plug at the outlet, but I strongly advise checking the units entire electrical circuit, or having it checked by a qualified individual. You could also try the humorous method; "one hand in pockee, no shockee"Eek.gif

I can only suggest the utmost of caution.

It is tough to diagnose anything by remote control. However, it seems that chassis ground is being pulled up to an A.C. line voltage, the high voltage output of the transformer, or B+.

Certainly you owe it to yourself and all others using the equipment until it is fixed.

Seriously, someone can get killed with a problem like this. You don't want that.

Perhaps this is why you got a good price to begin with.
