Single Driver Bass Bins: Jubilee style

Hello All,

A few years ago I built  half height  (single driver) "jubilee-style" bass bins. These are obviously copies and not factory built. I need to be very clear about this. I built six of them and have still two (half height bins) left over.

The geometry is a faithful copy of the Jubilee but they only have room for a single K-31 woofer. Consequently, they are only 21 inches tall and not the 42 inch height of the typical jubilee bass bin. When two are stacked on top of one another, as shown in the photo, they measure the same as the factory version (frequency response and impedance plots). When measured individually (one and not as a pair), the output is obviously reduced and the peaks and dips at 100, 200 and 300 Hz are exaggerated by a couple of dB. All this is to be expected.

The reason this was done was to provide a scaled down version of the jubilee that could be used as a center channel, perhaps with a K-510 on top (the little brother of the K-402 that is in the photo). Or they could be side/rear channel speakers for a HT system.

Anyhow, these two bass bins are not being used and are taking up room in the basement. I need to sell them. Let me warn you the cabinets are industrial grade (MDF painted semi-gloss black). They include plenty of bracing. The plate (seen in between the the two cabinets) actually has an insert and gasket to seal the bass bin access hatch. The plate can double as a base for the cabinet (the weight of the cabinet ensures an airtight seal against the gasket).

The drivers from each half height cabinet have been removed so you would need to buy two drivers. They are the same driver used in the Jubilee and the KLF 30. Substitute drivers have been discussed elsewhere and include an offering from Bob Crites. The 1/4 inch spacer gaskets remain as well as the dampening foam inside.  Please remember: Cabinets only - the two woofers are NOT included.

I can either sell these as a pair or as singles. They would be great for a center channel or rear speakers in a Jubilee system.

The edges have been rounded over, so if you want to pretty them up I would suggest gluing some 1/4 inch sheets of a hardwood ply for veneering or painting. Think of these as a raw canvas for your eventual masterpiece.

So I have mentioned they are raw looking, now the even tougher news. These are heavy, probably about 125 lbs each and difficult to grab. Realistically, you will probably need to fetch these your self. Of course I will help you bring them up the stairs from the basement to your vehicle.

They are located in SE Connecticut (Groton near the casino and I95 exit 89 / zip code: 06355), about 2 hrs from New York or Boston and about 1 hour from Hartford, New Haven or Providence.

PM  if you are interested. Tell me about your intended project and we can see if these can work for you.

I am posting this as an alert rather than as a garage sale since I have not yet determined the price. It is difficult to know how to price them. To me they are worth a fortune, to an eventual buyer .... who knows. We can discuss this privately since the buyer and I will need to work out pick up and if it is for the pair or just for a single etc.

Thanks,

-Tom
