The History Kid
Can someone please explain what a tapered array is, and what kind of sound changes I should be expecting? I am replacing one of my RC-3 II's with an RC-7 - and what I've noticed is that according to the spec sheets, the RC-7 features a tapered array, where the 3 II was just a standard two-way design. What kind of things can I expect different because of the tapered array? I already understand what kind of sound changes I should expect from the 6.5 > 8" drivers and the 1 > 1.75" horn, but what about the array? Thanks
derrickdj1
I don't think you will really hear a change due to the array. This is sometimes used in Klpisch center speakers to counter act lobing between the drivers and deliver a better midrang. The lobing is related to the distance between the drivers. I am sure others will chime in with more info. Compared to tower speakers, most center channels are design to give a wide dispersion of the sound. So, the polar response of the speaker comes into play.
