dafirst
Hello fellas. Hope you all having a good day and week. I am a fun of Polk audio and due to high cost of Amplifiers, I learnt Klipsch speakers are very sensitive and can be hit hard by receivers even though I am using separates. Polk Rti12 Front Polk Rti6 Center Polk rti6 rear Surrounds Svs Ultra 13 Sub Emotivat UPA 500 (80watts 5 channel) Carver Mt1.5 (350 watts channel) Sony TA-E9000ES Processor Mac Mini server Samsung BDJ7500 Alesis Deq 830 Digital Spectrum Equalizer From some reviews, they stating Klipsch are good at lower volumes but lose bass and mids when hit harder unlike the Polks that shines when hit harder. They complain about Klipsch speakers being too bright . I am considering Klipsch RP280 fronts Klipsch RP 450 Center Klipsch Rp 160m. Aside good sound, I consider cosmetic looks as well and the Klipsch will look beautiful in a white wall paint. I don't want to regret migrating. Anyone has any knowledge about the Polks vs The Klipsch Rp? Mostly listen to music 80% . 2 channel without a Sub. The Polks play well and sometimes friends couldn't believe Sub is off. But Will need to use one Amp instead of two to get what I want. I need a simple setup Edited 2 minutes ago by dafirst

They complain about Klipsch speakers being too bright I've owned a LOT of Klipsch speakers and just about every one of them sound better the louder you crank them. Bass definitely doesn't get weak the more you drive them. Quite the opposite. 19 minutes ago, dafirst said: They complain about Klipsch speakers being too bright . IMO, the only Reference speaker that was "Bright" are the original RF-7's. Not too bright to me but many others they were. I think Klipsch got it right with the RF-7ii. The RF-7's were bright, then came the RF-83 that were way laid back and the RF-7ii are right in between....lots of clarity without being overly bright or harsh. Here is a thread where I compared the RF-7, RF-83 and RF-7ii - LINK 22 minutes ago, dafirst said: Anyone has any knowledge about the Polks vs The Klipsch Rp? Although I didn't have as high end of Polk speakers as you, I came from this Polk RT-800, CS-300 and FX-500 system. I bought a pair of Klipsch CF-2 out of curiosity (and because of a ridiculous deal) and could not believe the detail I heard with the Klipsch. It was as if the Polk's had a veil over them. I had to go back through my CD collection to re-listen to everything.
dafirst
@Youthman, thanks for your input. Being bright meaning in sound and not looks. That's a beautiful setup.
willland
Dafirst, Welcome to the forum. Youthman hit the nail on the head. O too agree that Klipsch speakers really open up when you put the pedal down, as well as great low volume detail and punch. All Polk Audio speakers I have heard(not many) are of the laid back variety and were not too exciting. As far as bright sounding, I think Klipsch has gotten an undeserved bad reputation that some folks believe is true of all models without ever hearing a single pair. You have a very nice sub in your SB-13U that should mate very well with a pair of RP-280F's. Bill
Moderators Youthman Posted February 14, 2017 Moderators Share Posted February 14, 2017 Thanks. I only put the three pair together for A/B/C comparison.
dafirst
Thank you Willland. I appreciate your input as well. I'm now being convinced I'm not making bad choices. But what about 2 channel without a Sub. Do you think the Rp280 can produce a punchy bass? I mean music bass not that sort of crazy Bass lol

Polk--yes + Klipsch--no = bad choice Klipsch--yes + Polk--no = good choice Seriously, Polk Audio makes some fine speakers. They are just different sounding than Klipsch. 13 minutes ago, dafirst said: But what about 2 channel without a Sub. Do you think the Rp280 can produce a punchy bass? If my RB-75 "bookshelf" speakers(I now use an RSW10d subwoofer with them)can do it, then I am sure well designed floorstanders with twin 8" woofers will do also.
