Osibisa
I have an opportunity to obtain the above mentioned receiver and am looking for any members comments about this particular unit. Have never owned on and don't really need it, but it speaks to me. Also what do you think is a fair price for original non restored condition? Currently using a STR-GX9ES as my primary that I'm very pleased with. Thanks
jimjimbo
I have owned, and currently own, numerous vintage Marantz receivers and integrated amps. Obviously, I would think that a part of your decision would be based on the purchase price and of course it's cosmetic and functional condition. Units of that age benefit greatly from a very thorough cleaning (Deoxit) of all controls, checking/adjustments of a couple of internal voltage levels, and likely front panel lamp replacements. If you plan on fully restoring the unit, replacing capacitors etc., expect to spend $400-500 MINIMUM to have this done by a qualified, regarded tech. Does it have a champagne colored engraved faceplate? Does it come with the wood case? How long do you plan to keep it? These are all factors to consider. Check out fleabay sold listings to get a general idea of what original, non restored units have been going for. IMHO, fully functional, without a wood case, $500 MAXIMUM. willland
Classic Marantz like the 2270 have a huge range of used prices. I would say as little as $225.00 for a dirty model with no lights working to a fully restored piece at or near $750.00. These are guesses by the way, no concrete data to support my thoughts.
