Schu
I am looking for some suggestions on a WIRED stream/music server... I am not finding exactly what I am looking for although the Sony HAPZ1ES is about as close as I can find for now. I want a dedicated HD with proprietary software and a digital output that I can use an external DAC with (the sony doesn't have a digital output that bypasses the internal DAC). I dont want a computer running Jriver.
Thaddeus Smith
i don't think you'll find an adequate device that does everything in a single chassis. Your best bet is a 2-4 bay NAS and something like this: http://www.totaldac.com/D1-server-eng.htm

Thaddeus Smith
This one might do it.. http://www.bluesound.com/en-us/products/vault-2/?cl
Thaddeus Smith
Auralic would be another solution to pair with a NAS: http://www.auralic.com/en/ @A1UC has spent a ton of time in this area and should be able to help. Likewise, throw your request out to the computeraudiophile forum and see what they come back with.
Schu
10/4... I did try and look at the Auralic but didnt see what I was looking for in as far as proprietary software. that is the leg up by Sony... it uses it's own software scheme to rip the songs from any HD to it's DSD system. if it had a digital output I would have bought one already. I think rodney already tried the sony also, but my pain threshold is much much lower than his. I may just go ahead and try the sony direct into the NSB as second input. derrickdj1
The Sony is a nice unit. I also like the units T.S. linked to his post. The major point is being able to use the ext. DAC. I would think the Sony has a nice DAC since the unit is all about HD quality.
A1UC
What price range you looking at these guys make some great stuff. I'd get setup for Roon for sure http://www.sotm-audio.com/sotmwp/english/portfolio-item/sms-200/ I use a Antipodes DX http://antipodesaudio.com/dx.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Schu
well... some where around $1000 would be ideal... the sony ($2000, unless I buy used... then it's affordable) sets me back quite a bit and is really stretching it for a single stand alone unit in this particular system. A1UC
In that case the sony would be your best bet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
