kjohnsonhp
Get a Denon 3802 instead of the 2802 on-line for your $700 or there is a used one on this board for $600. You can also look at the models by Harmon Kardon, Yamaha and Marantz that compete with the 3802 and buy them on-line for under $700. The Outlaw 1050 is a good value at under $400 used. One is on ebay.

JewishAMerPrince
Much depends on the speakers you are using. With my RF's I tried a Yamaha and then decided on the Denon 3801 (nearly identical predicessor to the 3802. Sweet sounding combo and all the power you will ever need! I got mine just about a year ago retail from Sound Advice at just about $700.00. m00n
Denon... Booo Hisss... Harman Kardon all the way. Here is a link to Harman Kardon's Factory Referbs As you can see you can get some sweet deals here. I run all Harman Kardon and I am very pleased. One nice feature of the HK 520 is that it has DTS-ES. The 520 would be in the same class as the Denon 3802 I believe. ------------------ m00nsCinema to be m00ns current toys FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 REAR: RC-7 SUB: RSW-12 / RSW-15 (feel the sonic waves) RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 AMPLIFIER: Harman kardon PA4000 DVD: Harman Kardon DVD-50(DD, DTS) VIDEO: InFocus ScreenPlay DLP Projector COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOX with Monster cable for that 5.1 Dolby Digitial surroundc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 09-24-2002 at 09:52 PM
chrisklip
Thanks moon, I like the harmon Kardon that was my first choice, When I went and looked at it, at Circuit city I just didnt like the way it looked. I was going to buy it for about 3 month then when i looked at it, it did not appeal to me. Does it have 6.1(for rear center). Thanks again moon P.S. I bet your system ROCKS!!!!!!!!!! m00n
Yes, it has DTS ES 6.1/7.1 discrete/matrix. However, the 6th and 7th channels are mono, meaning that they have the exact same signal going to them. I confirmed that with H/K tech support. I could be wrong, but I am willing to bet that all receivers are mono for the 6/7th channels when talking about DTS-ES and Dolby Digital-EX. However, HK is supposed to have something called Logic7. This is a H/K technology that from what I have read about is supposed to sound incredible. I have never heard it myself. THere are 2 flavors of it. Logic7 that the 520 has will take a 2 signal analog and turn it into 7 discrete channels. Now the H/K 8000 has a more advanced version of logic7 that will take a digital signal such as DTS and will extract 2 more discrete channels making for a total of 7 discrete channels. BUT, the H/K 8000 is a bit out of the price range you mentioned. It's kinda funny, when I first joined this forum, it seemed like I was the only Harman Kardon owner, but now there are several of us. Were catching up to the Denon owners. To be honest with you, I am very happy with Harman Kardon as you can tell with all the Harman Kardon components I have. Now to be fair, there is one thing that my receiver is missing that I wish it had, and thats Dolby Digital-EX. That is the ONLY thing about this receiver I don't like... And yes, ma toys can flat get it on. ------------------ m00nsCinema to be m00ns current toys FRONTS: RF-7 CENTER: RC-7 SURROUNDS: RS-7 REAR: RC-7 SUB: RSW-12 / RSW-15 (feel the sonic waves) RECEIVER: Harman Kardon AVR 520 AMPLIFIER: Harman kardon PA4000 DVD: Harman Kardon DVD-50(DD, DTS) VIDEO: InFocus ScreenPlay DLP Projector COMPUTER: ProMedia 4.1 c>Microsoft XBOX with Monster cable for that 5.1 Dolby Digitial surroundc> f> This message has been edited by m00n on 09-24-2002 at 09:53 PM
boa12
m00n, that right, whether matrix or discrete, its the same stuff to the rear surround(s). all a 2nd rear surround speak does is provide for more fillage in the gap between surrounds, if needed. doesn't add any dif material. same as if you add a 2nd set of side surrounds (as far as side surround goes, not rear surround). ------------------ My Home Systems Page This message has been edited by boa12 on 09-24-2002 at 10:11 PM
