Futurist
Has anyone tried the speaker replacement for the RF-3 II from speaker exchange?.. Do they sound kind of the same???... My speaker is badly damaged I thought of maybe trying to replace the top ones in each at least it would be balanced????. PS I sold my RF-82's because I thought they lacked too much mid range.. Some of you said these older ones have less bass and are more balanced.. And I agree 100%
BlessedPrince
I like how the rf 3 II sounds. Specially when turned up. I have the same problem with one of my woofers. It went bad and I haven't fixed it. It's just laying around. The highs aren't very harsh and I like that. Futurist
How did your woofer go bad?.. Or did it get damaged?
BlessedPrince
I believe it was from over use and excessive volume. Paired with an older not so great amp. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
BlessedPrince
I'm still debating on whether or not to pull the trigger on the woofer. I really like the speaker. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
The History Kid
The only alternative sadly is to hold out either for a full speaker that uses the same parts and cannibalize it, or stake out eBay for parts. I haven't tried the replacement ones, but I'd almost have to go with the alternative. I'm not sure my OCD could take it.
kibbler
For what it's worth, with some scotch tape (and a lot of patience) you may be able to pull the dents out. I have done so, with a speaker that was admittedly far less damaged, and it worked quite well. I also have used a replacement driver from speaker exchange and it sounded identical. I see they are no longer available :(. I sometimes see the surround speakers from this era (black dust covers) for sale on EBay for $200-300 a pair, that would get you two replacement woofers and four horns - enough to last a lifetime. I can confirm they are interchangeable. I have had these speakers for around 20 years and they continue to impress... since I moved to HD streaming and a tube amp, they are absolutely knocking my socks off. Good luck
