Hasty
I've been considering putting a small two-channel system together as a gift for my dad. This would be used for music and home theater, but the room is small, about 10'x12'. I've been leaning towards RP-160m but I question if the RP-150m would be better in a small room. Listening would be near-field, about 8' from the speakers. The RP-160 is really well reviewed, but would it be overpowering in a smaller room? FWIW, I think the amplifier would be an Onkyo A-9010, so it's a 44wpc amp. I've not heard the A-9010, but it seems to get a lot of praise. Any opinions on the RP-160m vs RP-150m for near-field situations?
RoboKlipsch
imo nothing about the 150s would be better except price. Both will work fine its only a matter of what you choose. he will be happy with either.....there are no issues at 8 feet with the 160s
Hasty
What's your opinion about the 160's without a sub?
Rotelpower
I think the 150M will be better in your room. I have RP-160M in 17'x11' room and more than enough. I tried them in more larger room (16'x17') and sound much better than in my room.

You're going to have limited bass response there. That being said - the 160s provide excellent bass response with tight and accurate bass. There are some bookshelf speakers that execute bass better that others - but save for the puritans who insist on 2.0 listening, most will argue a sub will be beneficial. RoboKlipsch
I use 4 subs with my 160s so i like subs. They are rated to maybe 45hz and thats a stretch. A lot of content is from 20 to 45 in a movie. Music would be ok but anything modern might be lacking.
Hasty
What subs are you using? I almost always prefer running a sub, but it seems like some subs/speaker combos are more seamless than others. I thought about giving the new R-8sw a spin since it's compact and isn't likely to sound boomy in a smaller room.

It is a "reference (not really)" subwoofer though...it probably will sound boomy. I wouldn't consider anything less than the R-110SW. What's your budget? Hasty
I'd say $300, but that might get a hold of an R-110 if I found a deal.
The History Kid
I was going to pose the option of my RSW-10. It would run you a little more, but it's one the more beefy subs to go with beefy monitors. Don't know exactly where Labanon is though. Feel like it's near Jeff Co.
