robforst1
I just bought a bunch on DVD-Audio disks yesterday. Eric Clapton Reptile sounds incredible! Does anyone know if it makes any difference if I use the 6 channel output vs the 2 channel from the back of my DVD player. I believe my receiver will do the sound processing anyway. So, what reason would there be to use the 6 channel out? Rob
dougdrake
It is unlikely that your receiver will do the surround processing on DVD-A formats, I believe. The DVD-A coding is not the same as standard audio tracks on DVD movie/music disks. Using the 2-channel output, you are getting only the 2-channel mix that is on the DVD (I believe all DVD-As have both the 5.1 and 2 channel tracks on them), and it has already been converted from digital to analog by your DVD-A player. (BTW, if you don't have a DVD-A player, you're not going to get the DVD-A track.) If you want to hear the DVD-A 5.1 mix, you'll need to use the 6 analog outputs of the DVD-A player into your receiver. DD
justin_tx_16
No. The Yamaha RX-V1 can NOT decode DVD-Audio. However, you can use the 6.1 line inputs on the back if you have a DVD player that decodes DVD-Audio, as many (non sony of course) do now-a-days. T2K
Rob, I'll give you $10 for all the DVD-A discs. Sight unseen! Keith
