HDBRbuilder Posted January 23, 2003 Share Posted January 23, 2003 There ARE some advantages of front- or flush-mounting of horns and drivers...in that the dispersion from the final flare to mouth is a bit better...this being an OBVIOUS attribute...but it is also necessary to ensure the avoidance of standing waves in doing this...just as it is necessary to do this for rear-mounted horn lenses...and conventional drivers. PWK, himself said, re: the flush mounting of Heresy components: "It doesn't make a dime's worth of difference"...but if 9 cents' (or less) worth of difference is what you are after...then it may make the difference you are looking for...LOL! In actuality...the changes made when the company began flush-mounting components was MORE for production costs(ie., labor) savings than for anything...since it made final assembly(component installation) run quicker...it also made the component installation CONTINUITY better...since previous to the adoption of this method...the horn lenses of the speakers were aligned by "feel" to the openings while they were screwed-down to the motorboard from the rear...which COULD cause an extra bit of "being off a bit" by the installers...but once the front-mounting was adopted...variance in alignment was limited by the counterbored outer dimensions in the fronts' openings...and the outer dimensions of the driver/horn lenses' mounting flanges...IOW the fit was tighter disallowing as much variance as the rear-mounting allowed through the "blind feel" technique of alignment for components while installation occurred. It also saved considerable time...and time is MONEY!...in a manufacturing environment! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
michael hurd Posted January 23, 2003 Share Posted January 23, 2003 Also, flush mounting drivers in a motorboard, espescially dome tweeters and midranges, will help to cut down on early reflections from the front of the cabinet as well.
