netman816
Hey guys, I just bought the Blue Man Group - Audio DVD and I can't play the music when in "DTS Surround" mode. The only other option is Dolby Digital, but thats not surround sound. (it does work, however) I am using PowerDVD 3.0. Anyone know how I can get this to work? Is it software related or speaker related? Thanks -Jared
P_a_r_a_d_i_g_m
All I have to say is I hope you didn't Buy a DVD AUDIO CD cause that will not play in any DVD player, you need a DVD AUDIO player to read those CD's. Now if you bought a DVD CD with music on it, than it should work.
Swerv
Dolby Digital is 5.1 so technically it should downmix to 4.1 try using windvd instead of powerdvd.
netman816
OK, I got WinDVD 2.3 DTS. It plays the DTS streams, but, for some reason, the 4 speaker option is greyed out. I can only choose the 2 speaker option. Any reason why? PowerDVD lets me choose 4 speakers.
Hell
My guess it it's because you're running it under win2K, windvd doesn't support 4 speaker output under win2K for some bizarre reason. they cite "windows 2000 limitations" in the readme if I remember correctly. Swerv
there are many versions of windvd, try looking for the demo of the 4 channel version, then register it or *something*.
rol1
Maybe Win-DVD is set to only decode DTS movies on DVD and not music CD's? Win-DVD is already paying Dolby for Dolby ProLogic, Dolby headphone surround, AC3, and DTS. It would not be surprise that Dolby wants a separate license for DTS cd. And if Mpeg2-AAC is used, Dolby sells that one too.
Windstorm
Win DVD does not decode DTS. You probably have the 2 channel version. Go to help > about, see if it says WinDVD 2.X Multichannel. ------------------ Caring is the first step toward disappointment.
netman816
I have the multichannel version of WinDVD 2.3 DTS. There is only one DTS-decoding version, and it is this one. It works, but I can only get two speakers! Why would this be greyed out? PowerDVD lets me choose 4 speaker output without a problem. PLEASE HELP GUYS -Jared
rol1
Your dvd-rom has a 2-wire digital-out that is compatable with soundcards with digital I/O's.(Hoontech's are onboard, most Live Cards require a daughter board or I/O expansion, etc.. A DVD has a stereo/prologic, a dts, and a lower quality ac3.(a larger bandwidth combined to mono, above 10khz to save bitstream) Or the stereo/prologic and the higher quality ac3.(frequencies above 14khz combined to mono) Are you decoding dts or does it fall back to ac3 as designed if problems with dts decoding.(settings, signal, source,ect...}
Gluegun
There is a hacked version of WinDVD out there that decodes DTS, and one which decodes DTS, but only to two speakers... Choose Dolby Digital 5.1. It's about as good. At the end of May, WinDVD is coming out with a new version, which will decode DTS. You will probably have to wait for that... Also, there are NO ways to correctly decode DVD-A's in computers yet. This help? ------------------ "Feh."
