DIY woofer question.

Well, I have been going around the net to places like crutchfield.com and partsexpress.com. Notice I said woofer and not subwoofer. I say woofer because I want to use a good 10 inch for a midbass/midrange speaker. I was planing on doing this in a basshorn design and later do a DIY Sub Basshorn. A pair of 10s work but if I can by with just one, thats good. Anyway, Nothing more then $150each. I don't mind trying other web sites either.

You should hit the DIY forums like http://www.audioasylum.com/index.html who have a High Efficiency Speakers forum... that may be of great help to design your horn loaded speaker. There is also http://www.diyaudio.com/ ... BUT my favourite is http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/index.php in their DIY section... but converations tend to be more subwoofer oriented though.

Are you planning a LAB type enclosure? LAB Subwoofer Project Forum at http://www.prosoundweb.com/community/forum.php?board=3

You didn't mention where you are from and many of my links are Canadian... Apart from PartsExpress you already mentioned you should take a look at Madisound, they also have a great forum:

http://www.madisound.com/

There is also Solen who are well know for their x-over components, but distribute many European Drivers as well:

http://www.solen.ca/

Truth is, if you choose a driver, you can look up find a local distributor...

hope it's of some help...

Rob

Formaica's Prosound Web LAB12 Basshorn project suggestion is exactly what you are looking for. The enclosure was designed by Tom Danley and Eminence worked in conjunction with him to offer a driver specifically designed for this project. Just so happens it's $150US and you'll need two of them. It's available at Parts Express.
