boomac
I would like to get some big band music but I need some help. 1. How can you tell if the recording is any good? (besides buying it) Some sound new and lively and others sound old and muted. 2. Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and the Dorsey's would be great. Any recommendations on the best recordings will be appreciated.
Bruinsrme
I have always been a closet glen miller fan. The vinyl preserve the sound of yesteryear.
garymd
I have a copy of The Glenn Miller Orchestra "In The Digital Mood" Limited Gold Edition on CD which is pretty good. I just picked up a 6 album Glenn Miller compilation which looks to be from the 50s or 60s from my local library which has thousands of donated albums for sale for 50 cents each. Haven't listened yet but they look unplayed. I spend hours there looking and sometimes make incredible finds.
lovedrummin
I recommend Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington, "The Great Summit - The Complete Sessions, Deluxe Edition".
robforst1
I too like big band. If you are ever in Los Angeles (and have a turntable), you must go to Aomeba Records. You can pick up all kinds of terrific big band LPs for $1 each! Rob
