DIYers Auricap group purchase

I am currently involved in a group purchase of Auricaps along with the members of the EICO yahoo group once we got this rolling I wanted to share this opportunity with all of you. Everyone here is welcome to join in. You will have to go to http://groups.yahoo.com/ and subscribed to EICO group. Once done you can go the polls feature and choose what values you may want. Minimum per value is 10 but if the quantities get large enough the cost savings will be large !!

Here are the details so far posted by the Moderator of the EICO group.

Dear Members,

One of our members, Craig, proposed a group purchase

of AuriCaps (which most you would have heart about

their neutral sounding and excellent value for money)

in order to enjoy the attractive bulk purchase

discount.

Here is the idea of prices we can get if we order just

50 per value:

.027uF @600V $2.90 each

.047uF @600V $3.21 each

.1uF @450V $2.86 each

.1uF @600V $4.77 each

.22uF @600V $5.34 each

.47uF @600V $7.34 each

The discount would be even higher if quantities exceed

100 or more. You can check by clicking the link to

Audience:

http://www.audience-av.com/auricap5.htm

In order to estimate the size of the bulk purchase and

to make more certain that the exercise would be

worthwhile to carry on, I have limited the choices to

the following values and voltages only (sorry for

others whose needs cannot be met on this occasion):

0.1 uF @450V

0.47 uF @450V

0.015 uF @600V (no lower voltage available)

0.027 uF @600V (no lower voltage available)

0.047 uF @600V (no lower voltage available)

0.1 uF @600V

0.22 uF @600V

0.47 uF @600V

The above values are most commonly found in EICO (and

other tube audio amplifiers), e.g.

HF-85:

0.015uF to replace C23 & 24 ceramic disc caps in the

cathode bypass in V5;

0.027uF to replace ceramic disc caps C19 & 20 in the

coupling of V3 and V4; and

0.47uF and 0.1uF, etc.

HF-22, 35, 70, 89:

0.1uF/600V in the coupling between splitter and power

tubes

HF-50, 60:

0.22uF/600V (same)

In my view all the caps used in EICO amps, e.g.

ceramic disc caps and Pyramid molded caps, work very

well together and thus the nice sound of EICO. So,

you may need to replace them unless it is

necessary, e.g. drifted value (particularly common in

ceramic disc caps), and leaky (dangerous!). So, it

could be your opportunity to stock some AuriCaps at

bulk purchase discounted prices for the rainy day.

Since the larger the size of the purchase, the better

bulk purchase discount can we together enjoy, I have

set "10" as the minimum quantity for one

value/voltage. In addition, since Craig's company

will be packing and mailing consignments, there would

be reasonable packing and handling charge of USD $5

for each packing, irrespective of the quantities

inside. When it is decided that the bulk purchase

would proceed, you will be given the opportunity to

confirm the quantities of your purchase, e.g. you may

change 10 into 12 to suit your specific requirement.

Craig would then finalize the quantities and indicate

the finalized unit price for each value/voltage.

Payment should be made by PayPal to Craig's company,

the NOS Valves Online but only when the finalized unit

price is available. PayPal is good for this exercise

because you can trace your payment record easily.

PayPal would charge Craig's company 3%, which is

payable by buyers. This is reasonable but please take

this into account.

Now it is your time to make your choice, if any. If

the initial response here in our EICO eGroup is good,

we may publicize the exercise in the Tweaker/DIYer

Asylum to further increase the size of the bulk

purchase.

Regards,

Richard - Moderator

Yikes! Gee, if they sound so wonderful together why not just stay with them, and they only cost pennies a piece.

Great idea though, and the Auricap is a great cap.

I didn't mean to sound nasty, I was actually trying to funny.

I'd love to get in on this, but since I do x-overs, my values are much bigger. I could use some of the values as bypass caps, but for that application I'd rather use film and foils.
