A list that omits Scotty Moore and James Burton can't be taken seriously.

I was trying to think of Scooty Moore`s name the other night while writing a post. It was the discussion about why jazz records sounded so good even though they were recorded forever ago. Got me to thinking about all those Sun Sessions and how basic all that equipment was. Scooty`s guitar sounds great on those Elvis recordings. The band is so tight. And those vocals. WoW!

Garcia better than Neil? Their music and playing style are so different. This is what I don`t like about lists that magazines come up with. Your list or mine are just as relevant as their`s. The main thing I look at on a list is the top 3. Mainly #1. From there there is no way you can really put an order to things. Who is #1 on my guitar list? If it were my list I would omit the numbers and just list the names in no certain order.

Good point. I still stand by my statement though. I've seen both numerous times. I've also heard some no-name guitarists who could blow away many on that list.

I'm wondering why Zappa is so far down on both lists, although not directly known for it he is a serious guitar player. Should be in the top ten, at least in my opinion. Guitar Magazine's list makes a lot more sense than the Rolling Stones one, though.

And by the way, where is Mato Nanji of Indigenous on either list? That dude can literally channel SRV on stage - a hell of a guitar player! A "must hear" in a concert venue, CD's can't capture the kind of show Mato puts on. Anyone else seen Indigenous in concert?

The correct term should be DEAD HEAD......................hehehe

These lists are very subjective and do their job which is to sell magazines.........These are mostly electric guitars...what about the acoustic players.....

I can't believe Michael Schenker, Alvin Lee, Leslie West or Frank Marino are not on either list. At least they got Yngwie Malmsteen on this list.

Speaking of Alvin Lee, I've got an original Deram/London vinyl copy of "Undead", Ten Years After's second live album that was recorded in a London blues club called Klooks Kleek. I think it was done around 1967 or 68. Good live recording in a "club" atmosphere, Alvin Lee really tears it up on "Woodchoppers Ball" and "I'm Going Home". Yup, Alvin deserves a place on the list, even if he hasn't done much lately.

While I would agree, they are disrespecting some of the greatest of all time by not having them on the lists... I mean CMon... Rolling Stone has the guitar playing nurd from The White Strips @ #17, yet there is no Alex Lifeson? Un-Fricken speakable. I must admit... Now I am getting very pissed off at these lists. Before I was just irritated. 11.gif

Opps... Sorry double post. Nothing to see here... Move along.

Ok so I thought about something to rant about in this double post... No reason to let a good post go to waste. 2.gif

A few months ago I went on a tantrum about the music industry. Now, as you can see from these lists that were produced by two different magazines, clearly it's a bunch of idiots out there dictating what we listen to... These friggen morons would not know the difference between a chocolate M&M and a deer turd.

Idiots...

Excuse me while I go kick something.
