Fish Posted October 5, 2003 Share Posted October 5, 2003 If you are a natural you may not need lessons,that said,one thing you don't want is to learn is the wrong way.Even a few months of lessons will give you a great advantage,learning basics like always pick down then up,not just down.Thats one mistake I see most often,later on it adds great speed.You also will need to learn to read tableture(pretty easy),penatonic scale(blues)etc..to play your favorite songs.I would say spend $300 on a guitar and the rest on lessons,if you don't like the lessons you may not stick with guitar anyway.I bought a $1k Takamine acoustic/electric for $160 at a pawn shop,there are deals out there,it does help if you know what to look for as far as condition.
