Question...Can anyone tell me the answer, regarding The Godfather II on DVD?

Why did Al Pacino have Fredo killed? I mean...I know Fredo betrayed the family, but he really had a good heart.

Not only did Fredo betray the family, but he almost got Michael and his wife killed while at Lake Tahoe.

Not to mention his inept performance as his dad's bodyguard in Godfather I. The Godfather is available on DVD??
