i am on my 2nd dvd/sacd changer, i sold bclarke my original. the sony dvpnc685v has p.scan. and improved bass management.

technically, sacd is a superior format to dvd-a as dsd(DirectStreamDigital)is the MOST TRUE-TO-ORIGINAL digital recording method developed, and the only digital recording format that does NOT use PCM (PulseCodeModulation)

I don't think there is a nickel's worth of difference, sound quality-wise, but there are some aspects where one format or the other has the edge. It seems SACD's are often cheaper, which is a big plus to me. But DVD-A's linear PCM system seems to be more compatible with the dsp used in receivers and pre-pro's. On the other hand, I like the fact that SACD was designed as a ~music~ format from the get-go - you don't need to have a video display just to navigate the disc! Also, I don't appreciate the taller jewel box many DVD-A's come in. Why was that done; Just to sell new storage racks?

I am still undecided granted I have a very limited "collection". I really cannot tell the difference between the two at this time. I only have one SACD in multi channel format whith is Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon. I have several DVD-A titles which include Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and several sampler discs. I like being able to watch tid-bits on the TV about the band on DVD-A.
