Anyone know a good way to stop windows from rattling like hell?? My 3 SVS's shake the windows to death, they will buzz like crazy at certain frequences. Is there something out there that can be stuck on and not be seen very well? I would like to stop it as much as possible, so any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Scott,

Sorry bro, I can't help with how to stop the rattling completly, If you can try and use some weather sealing on the sliders of the windows, Idid this and it helps, but than you cannot open the window. The one positive is it is tape and I can take it off. I know what you mean about rattles, shakes, vibrations and all, I feel for you, BUT3.gifWE are the ones who wanted the maximum bass and this is just one of the consequenses.

BTW I am having a HUGE WAF factor cause the HOLE HOUSE SHAKES with the B4, and I made an agreement with my wife when we move in a couple of years she will allow me to build my own personnal music room and HT< which I believe is one of the only ways of having the proper set up. So I guess what I am saying is HOME IMPROVEMENTS! and major modifications along with soundproofing, softening of the walls, carpet, Proper thermal payne winows, If you need then as I never see windows in the best sounding rooms, and a whole lot more that a specialist will charge big $$$ for is really what is needed for the Ultimate rattle free and sound proof environment.

Smilin out

Hope your holidays were great with the fam.

Steve - Thanks for nothing dude! 3.gif j/k Yeah we ask for it when we got moster subs to beat the crap out of the house 9.gif I bet that B4+ is a HUGE WAF killer, but I bet she forgets all about it when you all are watching movies and she really gets to feel the movie now 2.gif I plan to get a basement house next and will have a dedicated HT room, so that will be a no brainer, no windows in that room, hehe. But I am just trying to get a temporary fix now, I will figure something out. Sorry I didn't get a chance to call you back yesterday, I got your voicemail, but was in school and then had an appointment, I will try to call you today sometime and see how things are going.

Picky - Thanks for the link, I will look into those, not sure if they will go in this house, but maybe my next one. I was thinking of putting a little strip of Dynamat on the window to see if that will help absorb some rattles. I know it works in my car, so why not in the house 9.gif Thanks again!

Yeah, if you are moving then, the Pellas are a bad idea for you existing house as they are on the pricey-side! These windows are what I consider "keepers" so I advise you to put them only in a house you're gonna keep for a long time. Naturally, the casements were only a suggestion. Pella makes a lot of different styles. You can see how they look on our house by visiting our Theater site below. There is a before and after view of the outside of the house on the first page of the Construction Section. We had the original (1943) single-pane, double-hung sash windows before the Pellas. They rattled like crazy every time a big truck drove by! Thank goodness we upgraded! Best of luck with the Dynamats!

Scott,

I hat e to be the bearer of more bad news, but I have my system set in the lower level of a trilevel and the damn thing shakes each and every floor, my daughter was upstairs in our office doing her homeswork while I was watching Star Wars the return of the Clones and she came down to ask me to lower the volume cause she was councing up and down in her chair from the vibrations!

And as far as the WAF factor goes, she gets nervous when she FEELS the BASS too much, oh well more s*** to deal with.11.gif BTW the pella windows are a great thing, they are made well and should not rattle, I had Hurd windows in my last house and they were great also, Also cheaper than pella but just as good, there are a lont of window manufactures out there and in Arizona they can replace year round probably in 1 day, if you go that route, shop around you can fin GREAT deals out there!

Lets hook up later, I am meeting at my house this afternoon with the manager ofrom tweeter to show him issues with my system.

BTW I will be coming to the Pheonix are in Feb or March, Hope we can hook up.

Hi

One solution may be to use a foam plug you can insert it when the HT is up and running and remove it when not in use. Cut the plug slightly larger than the window for a tight fit You can finish the foam with your choice of of fabrics This is the same kind of foam they use to make seat cusions Ect.. This is a very easy DIY project

Cheers

Steve - My new house when I do the basement option will be heavily insulated, I will make them insulate/sound proof the ceiling to prevent noise being heard above. 1.gif But who knows, with SVS it may be able to penetrate anything muahahahaha 9.gif

Strabo - If you are asking me how loud these are being played, well lets just say VERY loud. Basic testing with my SPL meter during Finding Nemo the Darla Tapping scene registered only 113db's 11.gif, I know they can belt out more, I didn't have the volume at reference, about -12 under reference actually. 9.gif So my poor windows just hate me during heavy bass scenes. 15.gif9.gif

htxpert - Almost missed your post, sorry dude! Anyways, I would like to do the plug thing, but I watch a movie everyday, so they would pretty much be in all the time, and the wifey pooh wouldn't like that 9.gif She's been cool enough to allow monster RF-7's/RF'5's, 3 SVS's, 65" Mits, etc in the house, I think she would kill me if I plug up the windows 3.gif I will try something like dynamat and let you all know what happens.
