DwK
We have one of them, with 2 Klipsch Heresys (origionals not 2's) and 2 Fisher STV-873's for more bass. I was wondering if anyone has one of these and could tell me a few things. My grandfather bought it and the Heresys like 20-30 years ago. I need to know how many watts it puts out. And whether or not its a good Amp. ( It seems VERY nice to me ) Theres a A and B switch on it. I have the Heresys hooked up to the A and the Fishers hooked up to the B. I keep the Bass settings set to +1 and some times all the way up to +5. Is there any chance of me hurting the Heresys or my Fishers? I never turn the system up past half way because thats just to friggen loud. And only got it all the way up once.... boy was that loud... never will I need to do that again. Fishers have a wattage handling of 100watts. And 8ohms. Heresys.. I am not sure.. Any one know? ------------------ K6-2 450 SB Live Value ( not 5.1) Klipsch Pro Media v2 400 ( soon to be 4.1 ) 2 Fisher STV-873's on front channel 2 Fisher surrounds on rear channel
jdm56
DwK, Isn't the A500 an integrated amplifier? I was thinking Yamaha stereo receivers were always denoted by an "R-#", as in R-9, R-500 and so on. Concerning power, I'm pretty sure the A500 was in the 50 - 90 Watt/chnl range. I could look in some old AUDIO annual, but that would require my getting off my a-- for a few minutes. I know the heresys are 8 ohms also so running them parallel with the Fishers should not hurt the Yamaha. If they get to pulling too much current, it should just shut down for awhile, anyway. ------------------ JDMcCall

PhilH
DwK: All I can tell you is that I had a Yamaha CR-1020 that I bought new in 1977. It was second from the top of their receiver line and Yamaha rated at 75 wpc. I loved that beast! I was even offered more than I paid for it about ten years ago, being told by a couple of technicians that the build quality of that amp, as far as a solid state receiver, was second to none. Unfortunately, I lost it in a fire 5 years ago. PhilH
DwK
i'm sorry man. Well, I think ours is about 60 or 80 watts per channel, cant remember. ** just went and checked. 275 watts total. So what is that? 137.5 watts to 2 channels or Total, 275 watts, from all 4 channels. (A B outputs). Little under 70 watts per channel then. ------------------ Living Room: Yamaha Natural Sound A-500 Stereo Amplifier 2 Klipsch Heresys on A switch 2 Fisher STV-873 on B switch My Room: Klipsch Pro Medias 2 Fisher Surrounds
edster00
Hey Phil, I have a CR-1020 that I bought new, along with a pair of Heresys, in 1977 or 1978. Mine is still mint, alive and kickin' and driving the Heresys as good as the day I brought them home ------------------ Ed W
Olaf
edster00 The old 2040's and 1020 Yamahas kicked butt and sounded great with LaScalas. Too bad Yamaha doesn't make 'em that way anymore. :-( I learned the hard way...I tried RF-3's with an RX596. The 596 is now history.
JohnA
DWK, The 275 watts is the unit's power consumption, not output. I had a '75 CA-800 integrated amp until 2 years ago, it was rated at 45 wpc in Class AB and 8 watts in Class A. It met distortion specs at 60 wpc. If your A-500 (CA-500?) is from the same series, I'd bet on a 30 wpc rating. John
klipschnut
I have the yamaha AVX500 integrated amp. It sounded great with my KG4s. Then I got the upgrade bug and bought RF3s and a yamaha 5240 receiver. Talk about harsh! I'm selling the yamaha and getting the Denon 2801. That old Yamaha amp was pretty good though. I notice the difference right away when I hooked up the new Yamaha.
