Western Electric: What is the my$tique?

i was reading that audio heritage website the other day, and apparently WE stuff was the very first in what I guess you would call modern sound reproduction. They had a virtual monopoly up until the 40s I believe. So the original stuff is always collectible. I doubt they sound super duper from what I read.

The WE555, 594, and 713 compression drivers can compete with modern drivers WRT sound quality.

Twenty five years or so ago, most of this stuff could be had for hauling it away. Most of this suff probably ended up in a landfill somewhere, making any remaining stuff very rare.

Thus the prices.
