Sub Wire

Some time in the old days I read that runs of high impedance RCA type connections shouldn't be made over 16 feet. The theory was that the capacitive effects of the wire shorted out the high frequencies. On the other hand, shield balanced 600 ohm lines for microphone feeds were much longer.

The advice re RCA type connections may not be quite as critical these days with some pre amp outputs. This is because they are very low impedance, meaning they can deliver the need current despite the effect of the cable.

Of course in either case, the loss of high frequencies does not worry us feeding subs.

Welcome to the Forum.

When I was buying my interconnects for my HT, I was talking to John at Cobalt Cable and if I remember correctly he told me his sub wire had no signal loss to 50 feet and maxed at 75.

I could be wrong, call or email him, he was very helpfull to me and his product is first class at everyday store prices. Even let me test some wires before buying them. He even gave me a free single 2M interconnect for my center channel amp.
