Can we ever own enough Klipsch

(and any others who may be interested)

I am not going to go into a long post about my experimenting with Khorn placement at this point in time because I am not done "fiddling" yet...but I will go so far as to say the following:

FWIW I took the plunge and bought some Khorns even though I don't have "proper corners" to put them in. I am not at all disappointed. While I am sure good corners are necessary to make the Khorns "perfect" (whatever that is), corner placement is not mandatory for OUTSTANDING sound and GREAT bass. Heck, I don't have them in corners at all! In fact I will go so far as to say room dimensions are a bigger factor in getting GREAT sound out of the Khorns than corner placement is.

More on this subject later, and in a different thread, but what I am trying to say is don't deprive yourselves of Khorns just because you don't have "proper corners" you don't know what you are missing cwm30.gif !

As you can see from the following listings, I am a big Klipsch fan. I love the old Heritage series for their dynamic, accurate sound especially the realism of the bass. My Klipsch THX system does a fabulous job with movies as it was designed specifically for that purpose as the Heritage was for the reproduction of music. When I watch music oriented DVDs, I use the Heritage system but when I watch regular movies especially those with special effect surround sound I prefer the THX system. I am still playing with the various Klipsch subs I have varying placement and combinations, I just moved both LF-10s into the THX system and they sound real good may try the SW12II in the rear of the THX room and with the KSW15 in the Heritage system. Actually except for the movie LFE effects I prefer the Khorn bass alone for music as it goes plenty low with a cleaness and accuracy that I have found nowhere else.

Actually, the Klipsch THX surrounds, because the are dipolar, smaller and can be mounted more closly to what one would find in a movie house produce a better effect than the LaScalas. The exception is musicals and music DVDs. The reproduction of various sound effects (explosions, car crashes, birds and planes flying off, etc) don't seem to require the same level of fidelity that music does! It seems that it is hard to determine the level of distortion in a car crash. Interesingly, I usually just use the Khorns when I play CDs - they create their own magic - but like to use the DSP reverb effects when playing music on the THX system.

Soundog.... I see you have the Outlaw 1050 6.1 Receiver. I have their 750 5 Channel Amp. If the 1050 performs as well as the 750, you've got a great receiver at an excellent price. I'm Looking forward to buyer reviews & comments on their Model 950 Preamp/Processor, after its October release. I may become a complete Outlaw convert.

JimYou're welcome & I'm glad you got it at Great Price Too!

Earlier this summer I had the good fortune to find one in black & at a great price as well. So when the offer to purchase another in black came my way, I remembered reading your thread and thought, why not give another BB Member a shot at it. I've been an avid audio enthusiast for 29 years, I'm not motivated by the profit potential, and it's still a fun, exciting and relaxing hobby for me. As best I can recall, I heard my first Klipsch speakers at the Hempstead County Fair in the very early 60's. I still remember being captivated and mesmerized by the sound coming from what I called casket speakers (forgive me, only 9 or 10 yrs. old). I now believe those were big K-Horns and the PA system speakers must have been La Scalas. I'm still looking to buy another in Walnut!

Sorry about the digression, just a nostalgic blunder on my part...Wes

WOW

You, sound dog and steve P, you guys are sitting on some money with your hobby, you all have some seroius equipment!!

Next, i want to upgrade this A/V reciever!!

This is just a kenwood 50 watt per channel, front rear and center reciever!!

Pro logic, SRS nothing serious, but it was free!!

Also, i still know where to get the SVS sub, LOL!!

Id like to get the carver THX stuff, that was very nice!!

Down the road, im working on the academy today, should have it by friday!!

I've heard good reports on the Carver THX equipment. Given time you'll get all you want and more. When you get those K-Horns, would you still need an SVS Sub?

It's still a fun and relaxing thing for me to do. Spent the earlier part of the evening setting up and cleaning the newest arrivals, a pair of Walnut Quartets. I think I'm set for speakers now. My son has been asking about the KG4's.. Says he really would like to take them off my hands, also said he wouldn't charge me. LOL How generous....Wes

NA

Im ganna upgrade this A/V reciever, prabably wont ever get the K-horns!!

The longer i wait, maybe the less, or my luck more the carver THX will be!! LOL

If i get k-horns id prabably have to let a set of these go, NA, ill prabably wind up staying with these!!

And the Academy, thank you again!!

Only thing, they upgraded H/T, to 6.1 or?

Is the carver THX old news now?

Id still like to have that old news LOL!!!

Im pretty much maxed out, as far as room here!!

cwm35.gif

Im in a single wide (16 foot) wide moble modular home!! LOL

p><p>

If i see a set of k-horns in Denver by chance, and have the extra money, then yea, ill get them!!

Ill just cut out the wall to flush mount the cornwalls, then seal them outside!! cwm41.gif

No, in all reality, i still have 2 channel hardware here, ill hook up a 2 channel, in the back room!!!

This is a hobby, thats always fun!!!

jim, yea 6.1 is my limit as i wouldn't have anymore room for these big speakers for 8.1, etc. well could put another c-7 on the fireplace mantle for 7.1 but that would really be overkill for now.

but there's always that possible bigger house/room. will it ever end? cwm45.gif

btw, the c7 sits perfectly right on my 9" depth mantle between the corns. academy would have been a lil too deep (10") anyway.

thanks again for the help w/ the crack(s).

WoW

6.1, 7.1, 8.1,

Reminds me of AOL!!

cwm9.gif

Ill see after i get the academy this week, were i might be going, Right now i have just a basic old kenwood A/v reciever, wish i still had my onkyo!!

That one worked 3 years no problems at all! Shame i had to sell it!!

I dont plan on spending thousands again for H/T, i only watch so many movies, so if i see the carver THX at a decent price, ill get that, or just get the 6.1, thatll be good enough!!

Regards Jim

Your welcome on the glue!! cwm35.gif
