low volume with denon and klipsch

Optical or coaxial digital is the way to go if you want true discreet 5.1 digital sound...they will both sound the same for all intents and purposes. No wonder you were confused. This is also why there was no subwoofer output using the THX optimode. A coax will be sturdier and less prone to breakage or disconnection, if your DVD player has that output (looks like one of the audio cables you are using). If the DVD player only has optical, then just be careful handling/inserting the cable and make sure there are no sharp bends. Don't get talked into a super-expensive Monster Cable if you go to buy one....a simple Acoustic Research or Radio Shack Gold Series will work just as well. Hook the cable up from the digital coax/optical out on the DVD player to the digital coax/optical in of the Denon, then follow the advice above. The digital output can also be used for playing CD's on your DVD player. Digital cables only carry sound, so you will still need to use the s-video cable for your picture.

If your DVD player has progressive scan capability, then I would definitely go with compnents. If it doesn't then there isn't as much of a difference by going with s-video, but it would still be worth going with components. If all of this is really new to you, I would search the web for a lot of info. There are a lot of unbiased intructional sources for step-by-step setup for those less familiar.

I got the B&K amp!

I did it because I got pissed at the dude over there across the street blasting his crap while I was trying to watch a movie on a nice warm spring evening (I had the windows opened). So I decided to "Fight fire with fire!", and cranked up some serious "metal".

Hell YEAH!

Tell me it was some killer old skool stuff like early Metallica or Iron Maiden or something!

I actually did that to someone in a car-vs-car battle. He had his subs WFO, and was annoying the hell out of me with his rap crap. So, I fired up the 2400 watts of Rockford in the back of my beat up old Escort and popped in Mr. Bungle's "My *** is on Fire". I had very discreetly stuck earplugs in my ears beforehand - but the look on his face as he grabbed his ears (the cars were side-by-side at a red light) was worth every bit of temporary tinnitus I suffered the rest of the day! 11.gif
