mobile homeless
Kalin is basically another one of the Chinese Group called CATIC which makes chassis and transformers and even whole amps for a number of companies, all with different names. I believe this is one of their latest offerings so doubt many have heard this version. IF you do some sleuthing around, you might find something from somebody else that looks like it. I have seen this configuration before but dont remember where. Your unit does have 6SN7 in the driver position - ASL has also gone this rought with some of their samples. That fact that the bottom end spec stops at 30hz points to iron that is not the most extended in the bottom. Better iron tends to go to 20hz although many fudge the measurements or the base. You have any other info? I have heard some bad things about Kalin's reliability in the past but who knows. That can change. btw, Cayin is ALSO from CATIC and was seen in Europe first. Take a look at an earlier Kalin offering that was VERY near identicle to the Jolida 202a. kh
richieb
Love my TA-30. Have only had it a couple of months but have been quite happy. Recently replaced the tubes with a quad of Svetlanas', seemd to tighten the bass and is a bit smoother. Upgraded with Auric caps and focus control. Excellent build quality and finish. Gold anodized front plate and knobs, the chassis and cage are painted a beatuful dark blue metallic. Weighs about 45lbs with huge power transformers. All wiring is point-to-point hand soldered, no printed circuit boards. Mine replaced a Unison Research hybrid tube/ss and I find the Cayin much cleaner with superb mid-range and vocals. Have also owned a Jolida and the Cayin whips it bad, in both sound and finish. The Unison was first rate in looks and build quality. There was nothing cheap about it. I have just received my Fortes' and love them with the Cayin. At the moment I am comparing the Forte to my Triangle Celius. It is a very interesting comparison as the Triangles are no slouch and are listed on Stereophiles "A" list for speakers. Won't they be surprised with my comparison. It's like the Empire State Building vs. the Eiffel Tower, Tony Bennett vs. Maurice Chevalier, Raquel Welch vs. Bridget Bardo (thats a tough one). As of now, the good ol' US of A is not only holding it's own but I believe a good old fashion butt kicking is just around the corner. Tomorrow-round 2. Sorry about rambling. The Cayin is worth a serious look. playntheblues
Good Morning, I have read here many times about the difficultly matching amps and preamps to Khorns. I can tell you my Cayin TA 30 is DEAD quiet with Khorns .
