I think Kevin Bacon is one of the most underrated actors of his generation. He was probably doomed by Footloose from the very beginning. boomac Posted July 4, 2004 Share Posted July 4, 2004 Saw it last night. Acting was good but I'm not sure about the directing. I'm a fan of Eastwoods but too much didn't fit with the story line. Fishbone would have been real curious in the end and I can't imagine his character would let Dave's murder go without an investigation. Clint never really developed the theme of "who runs the neighborhood". Jimmy's wife was out of character in the end. Big stretch I think. Maybe Clint should stick to acting! Saw Cold Mountain tonight and liked it a lot better than Mystic River. Kidman and Zellweger performed well and were one heck of lot better to look at than Penn and Robbins. Kevin Bacon IS real curious in the end and his character WILL NOT let Robbins murder go without an investigation. That is implied by the look he gave Penn. Clint certainly did develop "who runs the neighborhood," he just didnt hit us over the head with it. Penns wife was perfectly in character. She explained to everyone why good women go with bad men. She likes tough guys and feels safe with them. Cold Mountain is a lyrically beautiful film, almost as good as the book, but the unscratched beauty of Nicole Kidman is no comparison for the hard reality etched in Mystic River.
