RC-35 VS RC 3II

First, quickly do some searches in this section and two-channel with terms such as RC35 or RC3II. The topic has been discussed a number of times within the last year and a half. I seem to recall that opinions were mixed, with some preferring the older models and some preferring the replacements.

I still own a RC3II, and a RC35. Overall, I think the RC3II is a better sounding center for movies. Dialogue seems more accurate with its sealed box, and I prefer its older mid-bass drivers. The RC35 with its front ports is a better center musically, but sometimes colours male voices a little too much in HT. Either would make a fine choice.

What mains are you running? The decision-maker for me would be to voice match whichever mains you are running because the two centers do sound different.

I bought an RC-35 a week ago and have not finalized my opinion. I would have to agree that thus far it does a better job with 6 channel music than it does with HT. I'm not saying it does a bad job, but the previous poster is correct in saying that it tends to wash deeper voices a little. I'll have some time this weekend to explore it's capabilities with HT, SACD, and 6 channel and can respond more if you'd like. I have no experience with the RC-3II.

And just to clarify, I do not think that the RC-35 necessarily does a poor job with HT; just that the RC3II probably does a bit of a better job. After all, my RC-35 anchors my secondary system (located in my main family room) and does a lot of HT duty. Again, the main reason I run the RC-35 there is because of the voice match with other reference 35 series in that front array; otherwise, my RC3II would have the job anchoring the second system (if I still had my RF3IIs).
