The reviewer says that he thought it would be good for large projects like copper pipes and wiring, but I would think it would work much better for smaller solder joints (considering the power source). Haven't used it on any heavy duty stuff, but for light duty - it's the cat's testicles! Takes a bit to get use to since making proper contact is essential, but once you've got the technique down it's a cinch. I've even passed it along to our avionics/electrical tech's here at work and our industrial engineers are looking at possibly purchasing them for their portability.
