bluesboy
I've decided that instead of modifying my corner horns, I'll sell them to a friend of mine and build some new ones. The idea is to upgrade the existing Klipchorn cabinet design to something more exotic. As far as components our concerned, I'll be using K-33 woofers, Altec 511B horns with 902 drivers, Beyma Cp-25 tweeters and ALK design crossover networks. I am going to try to post pictures of the project in progress.
Daddy Dee
Bluesboy, This sounds like a great project. I'd sure like to see some pics and some posting on your take on the sound. Looking forward to that. Have you looked at Al Klappenbergers system section on his website. He did some Belle Klipsch mods using that horn and Beyma tweeter. They make a fine combination. D-MAN
Al Klappenberger has warned in the Technical Questions section that the 902 doesn't handle much power down low as needed by a Khorn. So that's an important consideration, I would think. It would give me pause... DM
bluesboy
Yeah I saw that too.I'm wondering if it makes any difference that I'm using Al's network design instead of the stock Klipsch A series?
D-MAN
The crossover itself has nothing to do with the power involved, it is frequency sensitive dividing circuit, that's all. And it WILL pass the frequency to the driver as it is configured to do, and if the current exceeds the voice coils ability to suck it up, it will fry it. D-MAN
I suppose that you could certainly use the 902 as long as you don't turn it up too loud. Exactly where that point is, I don't have a clue. Al K. or djk might know. It doesn't necessarily mean that at 30 watts, you are going to fry the thing, but at 90+ watts, who knows? bluesboy
I couldn't imagine ever turning these things up more than 10 or 15 watts per channel.
D-MAN
You should be all right then. DM
bluesboy
I've got all the parts cut for the bass horns. It's amazing how many parts go into the construction of a K-Horn.

D-MAN
Nice. Looks like you're using the SpeakerLab K plans (judging from the motor board)? I use that approach, and it works well. DM

bluesboy
Here's one more.I've decided to give up on the idea of using the 902 driver with the 511B horns.I guess I'll use K-55s instead.I'm going to start the assembly tomorrow.More pictures will be coming soon. bluesboy
D-Man I bought the plans on E-Bay two years ago. I suspect that they may have originated from Speaker Lab. But I'll tell you what, the plans are excellent as far as the dimensions are concerned. I know this for a fact because I already built one set and they worked out great. D-MAN
I'm sure, I've still got the Speakerlab plans that I bought in 1978! they are good plans. DM

bluesboy
Hey Guys, I was planning on using Beyma CP-25 tweeters in my DIY K-Horns but I found what I thought was a pretty good deal on some EV ST-350 6"x5" baby cheek tweeters on ebay. The ebay item # is 5750320734. What do you think,Beyma's or EV's?
bluesboy
Chris, According to my plans the dimensions of the top piece are 32 1/2" across the front and 13 1/2" down the side. That would make the angled section about 14 7/8". Don
