klipschmnfan
I know this is off the wall in the mighty Klipsch forum, but does anyone know how the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound coming from an Over-The-Air Set Top Box is handled when you use the analog L and R outputs from a show like the Super Bowl or other events? Does the STB downmix the channels? Thanks!
SCOOTERDOG
If you are using the analog L&R outputs you will only be recieving stereo. The only way for you to achive DD 5.1 is if your set top box has an optical or coaxial output going to your AV reciever and the program material is being broadcast in DD 5.1. Otherwise like I said, stereo only. scooter
gcoker
Exactly, as Scooter said there are two components in receiving and decoding DD signal. First you have to receive it and send it to a decoder. In reagards to your set top atenna you have to send the signal digitally to a decoder. There are typically two type of connections. Optical or Digital coax. Both are single type connections. Next you have to send it to a receiver to decode the signal and send it out to your speakers. klipschmnfan
Thanks for replies. It's my fault in not explaining it better. If I output the Dolby Digital signal in a PCM output, like that owners manual states I will only be outputing a 2 channel signal. Does this signal include the left and right surround information also with the LFE channel combined into the two stereo channels?
meuge
Dolby Digital compression will be included in the stream when you output digital audio from the set-top box. Unless you have specific settings for PCM vs. DD/DTS pass-through you shouldn't worry about it and it should work flawlessly.
