Colin
Are we close? Has audio nirvana come so close to anyone's reach that we can fool the blind listener? Has anybody done any double blind tests yet where the listener can't tell if it is live or if it is Memerox? What is the closest any system has come to fooling the listener? Can we really create a 3D sonic holograph...now, or ever?

With a number of different genres, volume in home may be a limiting factor. Though I did come close with my LaScalas. An acoustic guitar, Violin yes. But that state may wind up within the ear's grasp but nothing to hold it. Win
MrMcGoo
My dogs are regularly fooled by my system. A door bell goes off in a movie or TV show and the dogs run to the door barking. Does this count? Bill
sfogg
Acoustic Research used to do live vs. recorded demonstrations like 30+ years ago. They were able to fool a lot of people. The trick is the recording needs to be extremely dry. So that on playback the only 'hall sound' the reproduction has is what the room adds to the playback. That way it matches what gets added to the live music. Shawn
Colin
"woof! Woof! Who let the dogs out?" yes, I guess that counts...
colterphoto1
THere was a test done with positioning the soundstage that I think was the subject of a PWK white paper a while back. Had muscians behind black scrim and tried to guess where each of a jazz combo was located live and recorded and played back. Not an 'absolute' test of sound quality, but interesting nonetheless. Perhaps our esteemed librarian, Mr. McDermott could shed light on this topic. Michael
jacksonbart
May be because I am most familiar with it I have never heard live piano sound completely real to me in a close setting, say live blues recording. In a large concert it seems to work better. The ladies in the attachment have been fooled plenty of times.
ottscay
I have to add that when I put in a track with nature sounds, my cat is fooled routinely. It's particularly fun in Neo:6, because thenhe has to run from speaker to speaker... Scott

jacksonbart
3d Thank you. Since its few and far in between when I can get my wife to sit down and listen to music with me, Lucy and Elle never fail to show up so I am not alone. The only frustrating part is Elle snores (she is the one on the right).
