jeffgeorge
Do '85 La Scalas have metal horns, or the newer composite material for the horns? Also, what is the stock crossover for current day La Scalas.
spaaaz
my 85s have metal horns,I think its the AL-3 but I could be wrong, the 85s have the AL in them and will need to be replaced for best results
Frzninvt
The current La Scala has the AL-4 crossover with the K-55X and K-77X tweeters. The AL-3 is a good network. The K-401K horn is available new from Klipsch for $50 if you want to change from metal to composite.
marcophile
Can't help with the horns but my 2004 La Scalas have an AL-4 crossover network. Quite beefy too!
jeffgeorge
I am hearing from many BB members that the AL x-overs in my soon to be '85 La Scalas are sub-par. Maybe I have not looked in depth enough to find the answer, but what makes them inferior to the AL-4, AA, ALK, etc.? Another question: If I upgrade eventually to ALK networks, how much $ am I looking at roughly?
Frzninvt
I have heard La Scala's with the AL and they did not sound bad, but the AL network is too busy with lots of components. You could just put a reworked AA in there and it would be fine. My suggestion would be that you do nothing to them until you have heard them for awhile and develop your own conclusions. For ALK pricing it is best to contact Al directly via his website or via PM/Email.
