First up is congratulations to Arthurs-you've won a Klipsch T-shirt! PM me with your address and it will go out in the near future.

Second, I'm posting this on a Sunday but using tomorrows date because I'm switching to broadband and I may not be online for the next several days due to a scheduling mixup. For that reason I'm hoping one of you can help out and post a notice up in General about Arthurs win, and urging fokls to stop on by.

Now, as many of you know, the format's simple, name of aritist/group, name of album, type of music (cd/lp etc.), and genre, rock classical, jazz etc. as best you can.

As usual I'll start it off with:

The Band, "Cahoots:, folk/rock, lp

Although I do try to come up with lesser know works, from time to time I like to cover, and or remind, folks of musicians who have had a seminal impact on modern music. Who better qualifies than The Band. A most illustrious fusion of american folk music, a dash of country, and a whole soupcon of roots rock, these folks crafted upteen great songs. If you haven't given them a listen lately, by all means, plese do. If you haven't heard them, give them a try you will love it.

So what do you have to share?

Well that's a coincidence - on one of our cable channels (IFC I think), we just watched the1978 Martin Scorsese documentary "The Last Waltz" about the last concert by The Band. The film really showcased just how good those guys were.

My recommendation is a group that also has the word "band" in their name - "The 12 Girls Band" from China. I was working in China last year and caught a televised concert by the 12 Girls Band on TV. They are 12 beautiful women that play contemporary music on traditional chinese instruments - the erhu, gu zheng, yang qin, drums, xiao, pipa, and others. I didn't get to watch the Olymics last year but I heard that they played in the closing ceremonies. I brought back a 12 Girls Band cd from China entitled "Beautiful Energy" that's available on Amazon. A dvd is also included (my interpretor told me that the Chinese text shown at the begining of the DVD advertises pornographic movies). It's pretty stagy but the women are quite beautiful playing these instruments.

Damn it! You just took my recommendation! 6.gif10.gif

I'll have to go think of something else! BTW, have you listened to Symphony of Enchanted Lands and Sympony of Enchanted Lands II by Rhapsody? Now, there are two very interesting disks to listen to. Definitly something you won't hear on your typical radio station. 2.gif
