merkin
Could the dust cap be pushed out from the inside for the passive soofer on a forte II. If so would you need to just pull the woofer from the front and look inside to see it of is the passive covered with something on the inside. Frzninvt
It can be carefully pulled out with a powerful vacuum hose or a piece of duct tape strategically placed depending on the depth and level that it is pushed in. You can remove it, the drone (passive) has no magnet on the back but I don't remember if there is a hole that you may be able to put a pencil through and use the eraser side to gently push it back out. Take it slow, and good luck. It is not hurting the performance of the speaker any, but I know it looks distracting.
Thumpelstiltskin
No. The dust cap cannot be repaired from the inside.
merkin
Thanks for you replys. I've never even pulled the grills off of my forte II's. I was just wondering since I see alot on ebay that have the dust caps pushed in. My caps are fine i was just wondering for a possible future purchase. dragonfyr
As the dust cap is generally used as an adjunct for voice coil cooling, and since there is no voice coil heating issue with a passive driver (and since I doubt it is being used as a phase plug), I suspect that one could make the case that it serves no purpose except that of cosmetic consistency. If the appearance is this critical, you might try using a vacuum cleaner to vacuum the cap back to shape, provided sufficient precautions are take to support said cone. Another option would be tape, hot melt (WITH CAUTION!), or other adhesive provided sufficient support and protection for the more important function aspects of the driver are provided! But I suspect, in any event, that the risks are greater then the gain. One other option is the potential to simply replace the dust cap provided a replacement is available and the current one can be safely removed - again deferring to the integrity of the driver over simple cosmetics. And just why is it that people feel SO inclined to press the dust cap, anyway!?
