Just when you thought it was safe to go back outside! The real-world power handling capacity of 1050 watts RMS is not a typo, and 20mm of one-way linear Xmax means that whatever you put into this sub comes out as chest-collapsing bass. This is no flyweight-neodymium-Eurostyle-boutique-woofer; it's 35 lbs. of raw American-made heart stopping concussion. It features dual 4 ohm copper voice coils, 192 oz. total stacked magnets, a reinforced paper cone, and dual spiders with integrated wire leads. Keep small children and animals away from this thing, or someone's going to get hurt!

Specifications: *Power handling: 1050 watts RMS *VCdia: 3" *Le: 2.8 mH *Nominal impedance: 4 ohms per coil *Re: 3.0 ohms per coil *Frequency response: 20-250 Hz. *Magnet weight: 192 oz. *Fs: 37 Hz *SPL: 90 dB 2.83V/1m *Vas: 2.63 cu. ft. *Qes: 0.53 *Qts: 0.48 *Xmax: 20mm *Manufacturer model number: Z15D *Dimensions: Overall Diameter: 15-1/2", Cutout Diameter: 13-7/8", Mounting Depth: 7-1/2", Magnet Diameter: 7-3/4", Magnet Height: 3"

Dual 4 ohm coils, 1050 watts Pmax, and Fs of 37 Hz leads me to believe this is better suited for cars.

Ditto on the auto. Maybe not crapolla, but priced apropriately.

Well modelling both drivers in the same sealed enclosures, a single MKIII performs 3dB better than a single DVC, but totally the same slope. However, two DVC's perform slightly better than a single MKIII in the same enclosure. But since they both cost about the same, it makes more sense to stick with the MKIII.

The only real advantage to the DVC is that it has a flatter response above 80Hz (The MKIII has a gentle 3dB/slope decline above 80Hz). Also, the DVC can be used in a cabinet half the size of the MKIII.

As others have already mentioned, the advantages of the DVC make it better suited for car audio. Heck, the suggest cabinet constructions are taking into account the cabin gain in the car (aka, the suggest cabinets would suck in a normal HT environment).
