atomicskiier01
I have been listening to music using my DVD player which goes through a Yamaha receiver. I have an 5.1 RF-35 based system, but when listening to music I change the receiver to 2 channel (with sub). I don't really feel like there is anyway to control the levels of my music other than changing the Treble and Bass on the receiver. The only problem with that is that the treble and bass settings carry over to all of my other receiver inputs like DVD and video games. I use the digital coaxial out on my DVD player for movies, but also have the analog (red and white) cables going out the back of the DVD player to the CD input on my reciever, so I don't have to change the speaker setting when listening to music. My question is that I would like more control over the levels when listening to music, without changing the settings for movies. Would buying a standalone CD changer do this for me or would I need an equalizer, or is there a more simple solution? I am going to post this in the home theater forum as well. Thanks for your help! pauln
This may seem like a dumb question but don't you have any volume controls on anything? I don't allow digital in my home but I think I recall seeing some of it with volume knobs? Paul
atomicskiier01
I just mean that I feel like the music is coming through however my DVD player converts the digital to analog. Would a CD changer (I've never actually owned one) offer more equilization options?
Mighty Favog
There's a ton of questions to be asked here. I'll start with one. Have you tried an outboard DAC (Digital to Analog Decoder)? The chips that decode the program in 5.1 and two channel will, most likely, sound different since they are using two different chips to do this internally. With that in mind, I'm assuming your talking about the balance of the timber.
scriven
"More control when listening to music?" What exactly is it that you are looking for more control of?
atomicskiier01
You guys are starting to talk over my head, so I'll simplify. Would I gain anything (Besides the obvious multi-disc capability) by using a CD changer to play my music as opposed to a DVD player? Basically I am talking about control like you would have if you were using a stand alone equalizer.
crazytubepower
control, no. Better sound, yes
Spkrdctr
No, you will not get the control of an equalizer by just buying a CD player. You must buy and EQ to get the EQ. I hope that helps!
