T2K
Ha! Would probably make a pair of those RS speakers sound better. Keith
John Warren
So...the take away is you can spend $1000/ft for audio "cable" OR $.07/ft for "wire". That's a hard one.
T2K
Or you could pay $29.90 for 100ft of Sound King 12AWG 259X36ga.OFC wire from www.partsexpress.com . Or even $22.95 for 100ft.of 16AWG speaker wire. I guess the take away is that it is a matter of personal choice. Keith
Fried Elliott
When I buy all my cabling I look for well constructed properly shielded connectors and terminations. Sometimes that might mean I pay more for the "wire".

avman
to get the best possible sound from a speaker wire upgrade: 1: buy $500.00/ft. 'GODwire' 2: make all of your wire runs identical lengths, even if you only need 6ft. to the left front, and 50ft. to the surrounds, get 50ft.for all 5 runs so the sound gets to all speakers at the same time. 3:get some liquid carbon dioxide and play some 5-ch.music at moderate-to-loud levels, pour the liquid co2 on the wire to 'freeze' the molecules in the grain of the 99.999999% oxygen-free copper wire to make it 'directional'. 4:listen for esoteric differences in sound, and describe results w/'flowery' words like 'ambience'and 'cinnamon-apple/chocolate flavors'(WHOOPS! that sounds like fine wine/cigars) 5:CRANK 'EM UP and pi** off the neighbors! avman. ------------------ 1-pair klf 30's c-7 center ksps-6 surrounds sony strda-777ES receiver sony playstation 2 dishnetwork model 7200 dishplayer satellite receiver/digital bitstream recorder pioneer dvd player sharp 35"tv panamax max dbs+5 surge protector/power conditioner monster cable interconnects/12 gua.speaker wire a 'teens' sub coming!(RSW-15 LOOKIN'GOOD!) TheEAR
I like Audiophile "cables" much better! They have to use High-End WBT conectors, octo shielded, quad insulated and have aligator skin covers! The cable must be at least 1.5-2 inches in diameter and come in a rare rainforest wooden case! Its a must the cables use 50positive and 50 negative balanced pure silver wires twisted with military precision to the exact "twist". Furthermore the cables must undergo a 5000 hours break in using ear tearing Top 40 hits, bad B movies to align the "atoms" in a precise way only audible to superaudiophiles like ME.And a real power amp must drive a 0.005 ohm load for 24hours before the cable gets the ISO 9001 aproval! ShapeShifter
Jon Risch's Audio DIY Notes & Tweak Info web page has an article titled, "Cable Parameters and Electro Magnetic Fields." Jon addresses the differences in cable sounds based on the ins and outs of Audio Physics. His web page is an interesting and informative place to visit (IMO). His site provides other well informed view points on varying audio topics and concerns, as well as DIY instructions, notes and diagrams. Check out his article on Cable sounds if you like... http://www.geocities.com/jonrisch/c3.htm Cheerswes This message has been edited by ShapeShifter on 09-23-2001 at 10:21 AM
Fried Elliott
Hi John --- For me, it usually gets down to choosing between finding the stupid crimpers and eyelets in my garage or running to Circuit City. The last time this happened I printed out the Monster spec sheets and sweet talked my wife to go for me (Honey, don't you want to watch Julia Roberts get married for the 15,000 time on our new DVD player?) and she PAID FOR THE CABLES ON HER OWN CREDIT CARD!
