Sonic Impact 2

The sound quality is similar to the original T-Amp although the battery-powered original might be a little smoother overall.

Something to be said for battery power, the original may still be the best buy as long as it's available. Advice, get one for $30 or less while you still can.

Taddeo,

Is that a picture of Colonel Harland Sanders during a bad beard day on your avatar?

Jeff,

You are going to be doomed to walk the halls of Boze for that comment.

Julie,

While I am not a big fan of Tripath (there are much better Class D amps) they really can sound quite good.

Tripath (and similar implementations like B&Os) are used in lots of high-end audiophile gear.

The low power, inexpensive, amps reviewed, like the SI have also received ecstatic reviews from some web based review sites like TNT and 6moons--but they are best thought of as analogous to SET amps in that they are going to be very system dependant, and always have some interesting euphonic characteristics. Also, the off the shelf SI amp, or other inexpensive amps (like Teac), while using the capable Tripath chip, have compromised associated circuitry--which is why they tend to get modified.

So not a best choice for a general duty main amp. But cheap fun to play with....

What was SI2 review conducted on? Big ole horns?

The new one looks like a bargain compared to the Red Wine Clari I amp though-

Original $35 Sonic Impact 5066 integrated class-T digital amplifier is perfect for flea-powered tube lovers who want a taste of solid-state on big ole horns once in awhile[H]
