Speedball
I'm curious.... ....new technology it seems and I was just wondering if any Klipsch people have heard how it sounds with the Klipsch line of speakers.
Rivendell61
Speedball, Nuforce is not really anything new--another analog Class D. UcD is better. It uses the more or less the same topology as the UcD--but is a much clumsier attempt. It has had lots of problems (see Nuforce forum at audiocircle, or the new 6moons article). Too much EMI. More distortion than UcD. Etc.... Mark
sunnysal
Doesn´t Nuforce use the ICEpower amplifier module from B&O? If it is it is the cheapest of the amps that have been released using that module, kinda like buying the Teac tripath versus the Belcanto tripath....might be worth the try. tony
Rivendell61
Tony, Nuforce does not use ICEpower. They design/build their own amp. Mark
Seadog
I heard a NuForce amp at an Audio Circle event a couple of months ago (hosted by Arthurs). We did not get to hear it with Klipsch, but with Dunlavy SC IVA speakers, I was not really impressed with the Nuforce. The Halcro amp that was also there was a much better amp (IMO of course). Rivendell61
Seadog, Was that Halcro's little Class D: Lyrus? Good to know it sounds fine. There has been a suspicious lack of data at Halcro--so no one really knows how well it performs. The Nuforce example shows how hard it can be to actually execute a good idea. Is the Lyrus sold as individual channel modules? Mark

Is the Lyrus sold as individual channel modules? Mark No, it was actually a 5-channel HT amp, but it was only set up for two channel that afternoon. I think it was the MC50. It sounded very good, second only (IMO) to the Dodd tube monoblocks that were also there that day.
Rivendell61
Seadog, I think that was the Lyrus. I looked around the Halcro site a bit today and looking at the Lyrus by itself is not very clear....but when looking at the Multi Channel (2-7) amps they all have the Lyrus logo--and seem to use the Lyrus modules. http://www.halcro.com/logic/pdf/MC50_diagram.pdf It is still not clear to me if you could buy/use the single Lyrus channel modules as mono-blocks. Seadog
Yep, I guess you are correct. The description says "Lyrus Amplification Modules (1-5)". You learn something every day!
Speedball
What sparked my curiosity is another member is selling his 380 watts of Rotel 2 channel and has been talking about the Nuforce stuff on another forum. Thanks guys.......
rsp1068
Does the guy have his RB-1090 listed publicly? I would be interested. Also, not sure if this is allowed or not but check out nextlevelav.com/forum for some good info on the nuforce amps.

Speedball
If he does go the Nuforce route maybe he will come over to the Klipsch board and share what he has found.....
Rivendell61
Tony, Nuforce does not use any other manufacturers chip/module--they make their own Class D amp. FYI, there are about 20+ companies making Class D chips, etc., including Nuforce/Nphysics (Nuforce is a discrete design--no chip, like Hypex). The ICEpower chips are being used by a bunch of amp makers. It does seem kind of funny that when you pop the lid off a $31,000.00 Rowland 301 amp you have a Bang & Olufsen chip.
