toomanyspeakers
Just how important is it to use exact corner placment for Khorns? Can they be angled out towards the listening position? How about corners that are kind of rounded but not really square?
rockbobmel
Dan, There are exhaustive threads on this. You'll be advised to make "false corners". That's what I did. I have some simple plans, but they are not the recommended type.
DrWho
In order to finish the flare of the bass horn, the rear tailboard of the khorn needs to be well sealed with the wall. If you cannot achieve this with how you want to position the speakers, then some modifications will be necessary. The downside to an improper seal is a huge dip around 300Hz and some lack of low frequency extension (so it affects the lower mids than it does the extreme low end). toomanyspeakers
I was afraid of that. Thanks for the info.. Dan
stan krajewski
This subject has been covered extensively but I knew three people who personally owned the Khorn and the consensus is this: These speakers can rattle walls. Solid walls are a must. All three Khorn owners strongly urged me to "seal" them to the wall if and when I bought them. False corners are ok but the design is to have the speaker in the corner so that the corner is an extnsion or part of the speaker. With the proper room dimensions, the ultimate goal is to have the listener "inside the horn".
Deang
How about this: an improperly placed Klipschorn still sounds better than 90% of what is out there. You can "finish" the horn with false corners -- which I think works better anyway for two main reasons: 1) You can turn the speaker into the listening area so you have some control over where the sweet spot is, and 2) Pulling them off the walls stops the whole room from resonating.
