  1. It's true that you need to know what the problem is. But if the room is fighting the speakers, things can't sound right. And that's a fact. If rooms didn't matter, then why design a recording studio? Why not use any old space? This is not up for argument. The question becomes, how much money and time do I want to spend? Almost without exception, the most neglected part of most sound systems is the room treatment. I have to believe that speaker manufacturers like Acoustic Research, Advent, Klipsch and B&W (to name only a few), have had people with exceptional hearing "test" or listen to their products and be completely satisfied or even amazed with their performance. Why, because they have perfect listening enviorments! We the people then go out and buy these speakers and an assortment of related and necessary equipment to feed them sound. After that, there is years of swapping speakers, amps, preamps, CD players, turntables and boutique wire in an attempt to squeeze out a little better performance. I wonder how many pieces of perfectly good pieces of equipment I sold becuse they were at war with the room. Most of us, probably because of aesthetics or WAF, avoid treating the room. It's a tough pill to swallow. I too am guilty as charged. Well, thanks for the posting this thread and a special thanks for the link. It's high time that I practice what the hell I preach. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our equipment, but in our rooms....
  2. Congratulations Packers! Aaron Rodgers seems like a real class act. However, I'll always be grateful to the Steelers for shutting up that loud mouth Ryan.
  3. Everyone I know who saw avatar said it was dissappointing at best. Some said it really sucked. It seems, once you get past the 3D glitz, it's just a silly, ill-conceived concept. 2001, Blade Runner and Contact are the ones to beat IMO.
  4. Let's wait and see how gracious Drew Brees is.
  5. I did watch it, the Cowboys kicked the eagle's butt.
  6. Highway? I don't need no stinking highway!
  7. US Army, 1969 - 1970, Viet Nam 10/1969-10/1970. Two Purple Hearts and Bronze Star. Somehow I made it back in one piece. Not a hero, just a survivor. I saw enough over there to know what war is really about. Every once in a while I'll travel back there in my mind and remember the good stuff. Yes, there were some good memories. I am indeed blessed to have returned without any pyschlogical damage, guilt complexes or recurring nightmares.
  8. Well put. I work in Manhatten and was there on that day when almost 3,000 people were murdered. It's hard to put it aside or make nice if your spouse, parent or child were killed on that most horrific day.
  9. Any TA guys out there?? And what kind of responses did you think that would draw?
  10. Dolly looks more like she's hiding 2 bald musicians.
  11. WNYC here in the big apple. I believe owned by the city. Over the years they have played music that very few stations would dare to. Back in the early 80's they introduced me to Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Terry Riley. These minimalist composers were virtually unknown and unplayed. Well, at least here in NYC. I'm eternally grateful for that Although the amount of music played each day has given way to "news" (if you want to call their left wing agenda news), it's still the place to go to hear something new or different. Not far behind is WKCR. I think Columbia Universtity is it's affiliation. About a week ago they had a week long "Benny Goodman" festival. They played all the recorded works that they had in their library.I listened to a small portion of the festival and still was amazed at how much Benny Goodman recorded, how talented he was and how long a period his career spanned. I hope these venues continue to exist. Otherwise, we'll all be listening to the a$$ end of the American Idol assembly line.
  12. Someone saying they hear a difference does not convince me of anything, People who make incredulous statements must prove to me that they actually do hear a difference, and they cannot do that. Therefore I remain skeptical. Thank you! BTW, I too am a skeptic. NOT a naysayer. I'm happy to stop here and wait.
  13. Fair enough. You don't have to do anything. So I "googled". Every blindofld test supports the fact that you can't hear the difference. Does this include sticking your finger in an electric socket? Just to make sure you won't like it. Sorry, I couldn't find one credible site. Still looking. I never said I didn't enjoy this thread and I have as much right to my opinion as you do. And finally, you could make some bucks and gain untold respect by participating a blinfold test and maybe proving all the naysayers and engineers wrong.
  14. The priest in our church always beseeched us to have "faith" in God. He never set out to prove it. This should have never escalated into a philisophical discussion. We are talking about speaker wire & cables. Get a grip! For the umpteenth time, all you need to do is to post one link which at least give everyone here something tangible to base their decision as to whether or not they should spend $3000 (or whatever) dollars for speaker wire. And still 15 pages later - nothing, nada zilch!!! Trying to win this argument with this hodge-podge of logic pulled from every source and orafice possible, is pityful at best. Anyone looking in at this thread from the outside has to be wondering what the hell happened here. However, this is a perfect example of what happens when you can't prove a simple point, start losing badly and then resort to extemes just to save face. Ari vederci
  15. There is indeed a higher arrogance: Tell a person you experienced something wildly out of the ordinary and then expect them to believe it without any proof whatsoever. In closing, if one jumps off the Empire state building in nothing but their street clothes - they die (whether or not they believed in gravity).
  16. Well actually, yes they are. Read the blog in the post that started this thread. It's all all about hearing the difference for the price. Lots of verbal points trying to be scored here. This is not an 8th grade debating class and I just don't feel like going there. Notice how we still don't have one link to that one place that did an objective blindfold test. I'm now wondering what the "red herring" really is.
  17. I'll ask again. Could someone please post here (not google) just one link to an article of a blindfolded test which confirmed that people can hear the difference between wires? I'm not talking about differences in gauges. Based on the distance from the speaker to the amp, one should use the correct "thickness". Nobody's arguing that. I'm talking 13 cents per foot 12 gauge zip VS $100 per foot 12 gauge boutique. Thanks again.
  18. Can someone, (anyone !!!) please provide a link to a site or post a document which proves that in a double blindfolded test it has been shown that a group of human beings have been able to tell the difference between different cables or speaker wire. Just one. Thank you.
  19. 100% in agreement. At some point these people who make more money than the norm, got up off their asses and went to school or started working as hard as hell to get where they are. At least all the ones that I know. Worry about your own life and leave everyone else the hell alone! Grow up. Get a life. And every other cliche that applies here.
  20. Revelation: My revelations are most assuredly someone else's misconceptions. Misconception: He thinks he's right but I know I am.
  21. I'm not pleading for it to close. Leave it open! Just surprised it has remained open this long. I didn't start the politics and even you can see where it invariably winds up.
