steven32
Hey guys I was Just wondering what you thought? I currently have the 3805 so far very happy with it! I have the chance to get the 5803 for $1,100.00. What would you all do? Thanks[]
MrMcGoo
I would buy a separate amp. Receivers lack a good amp section. In a few months, HD DVD will be here with new surround formats. The 5803 is already long in the tooth. In a few months, it will be two generations behind. Bill
Zen Traveler
If you aren't concerned with video switching in the AVR, and trust the source where you are buying the 5803--I would go for it. If it's NIB, I would definitely go for it. From my understanding of any HD format, the standard must have Dolby Digital 5.1.
TheEAR
Firs do you plan to add a quality multichannel power amp? Yes then go for the 3805,if no go for the 5803. With Klipsch speakers the 3805 will do fine, but the 5803 amp section is a full step up in quality.
steven32
thanks guys i do not plan to use a multi channel amp, just the 5803. i do have rf5 fronts rc7 center and rs7s. the reason i went with the 5s was the size of the 7s were to big. i do have 2 rsw10s to make up the low end. i dont want to be disapointed with the 5803 months from now cause i enjoy my 3805. i am buying it from my local good guys which is closing. it is NIB. Zen Traveler
That is a GREAT deal![] {edit: I own the 3805 and I would trade it for a NIB 5803 in a heartbeat!}
toddvj
For $1100, yes you should upgrade. You'd be a fool NOT to upgrade, and anyone who would advise you otherwise is foolish as well.

Anyone not making the switch has to be a ...you know what.
desmofan
Steven, sounds like a great opportunity. I currently have a 3802 in my system, and, although Iove it, have been thinking of upgrading to a 3805. It would get me the additional component video switching and video upconverting that I'd like due to some shortcomings of my television inputs. With that said, are you simply buying the 5803, meaning you will still have the 3805? if so, have you put any thought into selling the 3805? If so, please let me know, thanks! Petrol
^^^ My thoughts exactly... you may have beat me to it but I'll sure second your sentiments by expressing my interest in your 3805, should you decide to sell it.[ ]
