Just ordered my synergy's need advice

So I finally went ahead and order my synergy speakers from my bestbuy employee accomidations. I order 2 f-3's, 2 S-3's, 1 c-3, and the 12 inch sub. I'm new to home theater but I think I got some good speakers here. Now its down to the receiver. Working at bestbuy I'm limited on what receivers I can get. I have narrowed it down to two. I can get either of them for around three hundred dollars maybe a little more (Pretty good deal).

So which would you match with these speakers. The Pioneer 1015, or the comparable yamaha 5860. Or should I go up and get the 5890 yamaha (get if for around 500 or less)

All in all I payed 1032 for the speakers which is great, and I'm not looking to go over 500 for my receiver. Of the three above which would you go with to match the speakers that I purchased.

Denon 1800 series (watever the latest is, 1806?)

Actually, klipsch was in a marketing scheme a while ago paired up with

yamaha. They were advertising your very system with some yammie

reciever, but I don't remember the model number. You might actually

have that brochure laying around your store somewhere. If nothing else,

you can rest assured in the fact that klipsch would never pair up with

an amplifier that didn't make them sound good []

Congrats on your upcoming HT. Any of your Receiver selections are good. IF- you could spring

for the Yamaha 5890, that would be the Best choice. Listen/play with them (after work time), to see which one pleases you most. Look at your Budget, listen and make Your selection!

Well we have them hooked up to the 5890, and they sound pretty good for what kind of sources are running to them, but I can't really test them out that well in the store I was consider the 5990 that just came out because of the upconversion and hdmi, but I found out it only converts to 480p and not 720 which to me isn't worth the 1000 bucks or 600 in my case. I'll probably go with the yamaha as I ahve a 5830 right now and I'm happy with the interface. I had see several people post on the pioneer so I thought I'd ask about it.

One more question. Like I said Im new to home audio, and I've been browsing aroudn the forums for awhile. I see all these people with speakers that they have had for years, nice hersey or whatever for example. Are the ones I'm getting, speakers that are going to last me a long time. How nice are they really, I know there not 6000 dollars speakers that you see in some of the home audio magizines, but being new to this I'm just curious. I'll be watching alot of movies and listening to my collection of music with them.

I think the better question is are you going to live with them for that

many years? [] 15 years from now I can see you putting the synergy in

your bedroom and busting out a full heritage system in a dedicated home

theatre...especially if you choose to hang around the forums.

Nothing wrong per say with the new stuff, but the old used stuff is

just that much better (or can be with the right amount of tender loving

care).

The only reason I went with the synergy is that is such a good deal since I'm working at best buy. It's something I figured I couldn't pass up, as I won't be working at best buy forever and I could justify spending that kind of money if they were full price right now. I'm off to Auburn now for the game tomorrow, I'll post more when I get back thanks for everyones advice.

Dude don't sweat it. You made an excellent choice. I own the sf-2's and had them for years even before best buy got their mitts on them. I got a pair of heresy II's i've been listening to for a very long time. I still like synergys and in some ways better at times. I think they are the best speakers ever made for the price they went for when they were available. They sound incredible with seperates. The synergys are easier to please too. They are smoother sounding than the heresy II's with cheaper electronics. I still like the heresy II's better, but not alot more. Pros and cons to both speaker.

Pioneer 1015 - I personally don't like the Yamaha's, but that is my opinion only.

Does you store not have a Magnolia yet?

Keep in mind, not all of the Best Buy stores are getting a Magnolia. I didn't see specifically what store he is working for, but his location may not be getting one.

I will throw in a vote for the Yamaha....I have the HTR-5760 for one of my rooms and it is pretty nice...I do however regret not springing for the HTR-5790 at the time.

The Synergy demo room that we heard in Indy sounded better to me than anything in the Magnolia room at my local BB.

If I were going to buy a system at BB, I would buy the Synergy speakers displayed on the regular floor, and then look at the electronics in the Magnolia room. Unfortunately, the poor presentation of the Synergy line at most BB stores does not do justice to the sound quality.

Anyway from what I've heard my Best Buy store plans to go magnolia in

Feb. of next year, so pretty soon. They are redoing our whole

store then from what I've heard. If your curious I work at store

Don't get me wrong...I love the sound of the synergy lineup. Absolute

best bang for the buck, no doubt about it. Notice I said you'll

probably still have the synergy in a bedroom setup [] As long as you

don't go throwing them down any stairs or blowing them up they should

outlive you.

But if you never plan to upgrade the HT then I think you'll find

yourself more than satisfied. In fact, you would notice better

improvements in sound by improving the acoustics of your room or the

quality of your electronics, than if you were to move up to more

expensive speakers...

The only real thing you can do to extend the life of your speakers is

to keep them out of the sun. As far as listening levels...keep it below

120dB [] Seriously, your ears will give out before the speakers do.

Just make sure you never clip the amp and you'll be fine (I generally

never like to go above "0" on the reciever).

Expensive speaker cable is just a gimmick. So just stick to the

cheapest 12 or 14 guage cable you can find (I buy my speaker cable at

home depot).

cables are marked up rediculously, probably the most of any item at our

store. For example a hdmi monster cable for 99 dollars can be bought

for around 30 or less. Any advice on some speaker stands for my

s-3's, I'm thinking I'd rather have stands than mount them on the wall.

I totally agree no doubt about it. I would rather have synergys and seperates than Heresy's and a cheaper to mid priced receiver. Now a modestly priced integraded tube amp with the heresys fuggetaboutit.

Heh.. your ears will give out before the speakers do! I have the

older Synergies (SF2, SB2, SC1), and I've driven them with a variety of

stuff.. right now they are my HT speakers, running from a Panasonic

XR-55 full-digital receiver. Very good sound. Very very

good, actually, for about half of your stated receiver budget.

Enough power to make film (and music, duh) Sound Right.

As for care? Optimal levels? All up to you. My

suggestion is get a Radio Shack SPL meter and learn how to use

it. Klipsch is so clean they'll play super-loud without

distorting, so you must be careful.

Me, personally, I play most rock/pop with peaks to 80db, jazz to 85-90, classical peaks to 95db.

For film, I set it so normal conversation is about 60-65db, which gives

me loud talk at 70-75, screams 80-85, explosions and other FX

90-100. With my speakers, and my receiver, that point is about

-33db on the volume control. (Goes from -78db to -0db)... so

about 1/2 throttle gets me what I like.

I can say, though, the Panasonic XR55 is an amazing value.

220-ish bucks, and it sounds sooo good. It is different

technology than most other receivers... it has no amplifier.. just a

really fast switching power supply.. or you could think of it as a DAC

which can swing big current... but it is not an amp, at least not

technically...[]

Under normal listening, you won't be able to hurt your system. Just don't drive your amp into clipping and things will be fine.

As to cable........ $0.25 / foot (or less) 14 gauge zip cord from the home improvement center and you will be a happy camper. Take the money you saved by NOT falling for Mon$!3r cable and take your girlfrend out to a nice dinner!
