Klipsch Sub 18

Amy, are there any plans on making another bigger sub, in the "Sub" line? I'd like to see an $900.00 monster of 15 or 18 inches to get more volume, not necessarly going a lot lower. It would be nice if you produced the sub that had the loudest fairly accurate 30hz to 35hz level in the industry, the need to go really loud below 25 to 30 hz really isn't all that big of a deal. I would also take a much larger cabinet than the sub 12, probably about 3 times that size.......

Just thinking about a killer HT sub that didn't cost $2000 (or more!) to buy but made VERY loud explosions for the money!

deal.

It's called the cornwall and comes packaged with a great MF/HF section just for kicks.

But seriously, what you're describing they already have. You start at

the bottom with the Sub-12 and if you want more musicality you move up

into the RW and then RSW lineups. For the ultimate in subwoofers you

have the Ultra2 system. All of their subs get more and more musical as

you go up the chain...and also just happen to have very low extension

with very loud SPL capabilities. (the ultra2 subwoofer system can do

130dB at 30Hz! what more do you want?).

For under $2000 the RSW sounds like it's right up your alley.

Btw, if you want more bang for the buck then you should go the DIY

approach. I can think of plenty of drivers that can do what you're

looking for and cost way less. (ie, how bout an avalanche 18 in an

8cubic foot sealed cabinet - with 800 watts it will do 118dB with an F3

of 29Hz and only be -9dB @ 20Hz....which with room gain would result in

an F3 closer to 20Hz).

Nevertheless, I don't understand what the craze is over larger diameter

drivers. The physics dictate the the cabient must become much larger

the bigger the driver gets to the point where you can get more

sensitivity by going with multiple smaller drivers. Also, it is more

expensive to big the bigger drivers because it is harder to control

vibrations and to keep that cone stiff enough to handle the insane

volumes without warbling. For example, you can get the same response as

the avalanche with the Adire Audio 15" Tumult - yet in a 3 cubic foot

cabinet!

LMAO with the "Cornwall" comment . . .

btw, Y'all must have some rock solid rooms... I already cracked two windows in my living room by cranking the bass to high and I don't have 1/4 of the sub your talking about.

With that in mind, before I burn my next pile of money on a better sub, I had better spend in on some new Anderson 'tempered' double panes [:o]

hence I built my enclosure (4.5 cubic feet sealed) with two tumult 15

and is 20 by 20 by 30 which is much much smaller then one tumult that

is 18 inches and the enclosure would have to be 10+ cubic feet to get

as deep or as loud. but people think bigger is better as with rim on

cars. Actually the McLaren the claimed super car of present day (yes i

know the enzo and the carrera gt are as fast or faster) but that

McLaren came with 17 inch alloy rims. Not the 20 inch rims found on the

enzo or the carrera gt. There is a point where there is all looks and

statement. Obviously to the builders of the f1 there was a reason to

have 17 inch rims and not 20. Hey they built the care with complete

carbon fiber tub and so forth and only built the best of the best....

8 cubic feet? holy crap, that sounds huge.

and here i thought my 88.5 liter sealed enclosure for my 12 incher was large.

I think you guys understand my point. I'm just saying if they can come out with a $1000 sub that goes mega loud in the main everyday listening area of 30hz and up rather than mega low (20hz) it would claim a title of sorts as the best bang for the buck for Home Theater. It could be ANY design as performance would be paramount. I guess another way to do it is to give us 75% off Christmas coupons to a select few Klipschophiles (me of course) on the THX dual set up with amps.

Good responses from you guys!!

Sorry to disappoint, but the Avalanche has been discontinued for a

while... and it's replacement is still a couple of months away.

Same response for substantially more money... (efficiency = $) hence the popularity of both drivers.

about.

Petrol... sounds like you have another problem. Probably

your windows are too tight within the openings... perhaps the home

settled onto them?

Cheers... [;)]

But you can still purchase the discontinued Avalanches....at least it seems that is still the case. I doubt you'll ever find them on the used market though [;)]

Another alternative is to find out who sourced the old Ascendant Audio drivers and just purchase a few OEM....it shouldn't cost that much considering all the parts are already tooled.

Nope... the IB guys did a good job of buying those out first, many

months ago. Actually Chad has since sold ALL his Avalanche and

Atlas stock as well. It's a slow time for DIY... but the

upcomming 18" seems to be in the same league.

At least AcousticElegence resurfaced...

wow that stinks....they should update the "old website" they have and

not post prices...seems I need to catch up with a few people and fix

some advice I gave them [;)] Btw, they've been a month away from the new products for a good year now.... [:(]
