B&K Refrence 50??

Does anyone know the differences between series 1 and series 2? I found a pretty good deal on a series 1, but want to make sure I'm not missing out on something important. Would a balanced connection out of a ref 50 be a decent improvement from the rca out on my NAD? I'm trying to lower my noise floor and get rid of some ground loop issues i've been having. Thanks.

EDIT:: a good deal on a series 1

S2 has Prologic IIx and from what I understand mutes momentarily during sound field changes to alleviate that damn popping (which I have gotten used to). I like my series 1 and have no intention of sending it in for an upgrade just for PLIIx. What kind of good deal are you getting. Also, unless you're running long interconnects, skip the balanced.

I would save my money for the S2 unit, I don't think you are going to gain by leaps and bounds going to the XLR connectors. I get some noise from my T163 as well but I have got it through just about all the receivers and processors that I have had. Hard to escape it when I am running all 104db efficient speakers.

If you do get it and it makes a difference let me know as I have thought about going back to the B&K Ref 50 myself. I has the S1 version for about 10 days and got rid of it for the NAD, I hated the clicking relays and pops and pain in the butt menus. The sound was fabuluous though, and the looks are sharp.

I got the B&K Ref 50 S1 for $1500 brand new from an authorized dealer.

I'd say go for the series 1.

You can probably get it for less than half the price of the S2 and you

can always send it back to B&K and have it upgraded to S2

spec's.

I haven't checked it out myself, but I've read somewhere that the

upgrade is around $500 - and you'll be without your pre/pro for about

10 days to 2 weeks - so, send it in when you're about to leave for

vacation.

I have the S1 and haven't been tempted to have it upgraded.

Bought mine as a demo for $1600 about a year ago. I'm very happy

with it - I LOVE 7 channel stereo! As Frzninvt points out, however, the menus are less than

intuitive, and these things are well known for a rather loud relay

click when changing sources, but I don't find it annoying - at least

you know something is happening when you push the button.

As you can tell from my sig line, I'm a BIG B&K fan. B&K

stuff works, keeps working, and sounds great with Klipsch Heritage.
