Watchengineer
Hi, I have a Yamaha RXV-3300 reciever and I have a question for anyone who might have experienced the same problems I have. When I set my reciever to AUTO it should automatically play what ever surround mix I choose from the setup menu, but I seem to be having trouble with the DD EX mode. My reciever isn't picking up the rear surround channel. I have to manualy set the reciever to MATRIX 6.1 to get the rear surround to play. I found this to be true for all but one DVD labled with a DD 5.1 EX track ( Harry Potter - Chamber of Secrets). All DTS modes work fine, 6.1 Discrete included. Is anyone else having this problem, and is the Matrix 6.1 mode the same as the AUTO EX mode? Thanks for any input.
Zen Traveler
My guess is that your receiver is not reading the "flag" to switch on the EX mode. Since DD-EX has a matrixed 6th channel anyway--I feel the results would be the same. I don't know that for certain but that would be my guess. The DTS-ES is an actual discrete channel (but I see you already know that [])
IndyKlipschFan
Hopefully you can over ride it and enjoy the effect.... It is awesome!!!

MrMcGoo
When Surround EX first came out, many older receivers kept dropping the sound due to an incomaptibility with the Surround EX flag. The solution was to drop the flag. Most Surround EX movies do not have the flag, so you have to set it manually to Surround EX. Prologic IIx largely solves the problem since it will automatically look for material to extract for 7.1. Bill
Watchengineer
Thanks for all the input people. I guess I'll have to set it manually if it doesn't pick it up on AUTO. Hey toddvj! It was just a tyop, but it does fit Thanks again
