Avia or ..........???

I would like to get people's opinions on which set-up disc is the best. I currently own "The Ultimate Platinum DVD" and it has all the calibration tools for video and audio on it. But so many people talk about "Avia" that I have to wonder what makes it better. Do they both do the samething, or does one have something the other doesn't?

Is there a set-up DVD that does 6.1 sound? or 7.1?

Just looking for answers before spending an unneeded $50 on Avia.

Thanks.

Don't have the one you have,so can't say for sure what differences there are.You can get AVIA for about $40 shipping included from many DVD sites.

Widescreen review has one on their site and in the mag called Allsop(remember the name from VHS cleaners?)It's 34.95 for a 2 disc DVD.It has a lens cleaner, all the step by step stuff for set-up.It has 18 high impact movie trailers and one music video in DD and DTS.

Also comes with the "Ultimate WS DVD Movie Guide",which I already have.It and others only do 5.1.Give it time,6.1 test discs will be out.

I have both Video Essentails and AVIA.I like them both for different reasons.

The AVIA is easier to navigate and the audio set up is very good,it will do a tone sweep around the room and that's good for checking tonal balance. It has a test for checking polarity between each speaker.

That's the AVIA site, have a look and deside.

I only have Video Essentials and I'm happy with it. Don't have anything to compare it to...

I too have VE but it is 5.1 only. I am happy with it though. The neat thing was that I had my set ISF calibrated before I got the disk and I didn't have to make any changes to the set according to the disc. That made me happy.

EDIT: I believe that the newer version of VE will do DTS and more channels. Not 100% on that though.

I personally prefer to use both Video Essentials and Avia. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, and used in combination you can check to make sure you have the perfect setup. Plus one of them (I think it's Avia) has better colored filters you use to set up your TV.

Did someone say there's a NEW version of Video Essentials coming out? swweeeeeet!
