m00n
http://www3.ocn.ne.jp/~hanbei/eng-intro.html This is an interesting concept.

Jay481985
one main factor of a horn is that it is exponentially curved.... this is more or less a curved port? unless the one end is narrowed and the other widens? but one main thing lacks, the compression that happens before between the horn and the compression driver. I say this is more a port than real horn
Daddy Dee
m00n, Thanks for the link. Interesting. I agree that this is in reality a port. Kind of a chain yanker, too.
Def Leper
Well, as Murphy said, everyone has an idea that won't work. There are some teltale clues about this design that should wave some red flags: "My experiences have been a history of struggle for freeing myself from common senses about rear-loaded horn. "and"A rear horn utilizes the sound radiated from the back of driver to enhance effectively bass sound. A folded rear horn made of plywood is difficult to build because of its complicated structure. Moreover, its sound quality is degraded by unwanted resonance originated from its angular sound passage. "That sure doesnt' sound like someone who knows anything about horns and horn design. And I hate to say it, but someone who has freed hisself from "common senses" is what we call the village idiot back here in the midwest. There's a reason why common sense is common. colterphoto1
My def friend is correct. The instructions and theory read like gobbledegook. He might have somewhat of a good idea, but all those goopy 'how to build' instructions have me headed out for a nice neat table saw to create compound angles. I think this dude's just afraid of woodworking. Must've been a Momma's boy. Real men cut WOOD. Michael
Jay481985
as stupid as it sounds, things can be learned from a picture, I remember that double helixes or in his case a helix are every efficent in compressing volume. If I remember correctly, a human dna if not spiraled would stretch from coast to coast of america or was it from the earth to the moon? Well anyway that idea may be a way to make a more efficent port. Now someone has to map the resistance of a spiral, I reckon it would be a bit more then a port that is cornered 90 degrees
