Tom Adams
Alright, alright.....I should know the answer to this question, but I seriously don't. In the Rat Shack meter instructions it says to point the meter at the sound source. However, I've always done it with the meter pointed straight up with the receiver of the meter at approx. ear level. So what's the correct method when setting up a multi-speaker HT system?? TIA. Al Klappenberger
Tom, You should point the mike at the sound source. BUT: that source should be playing 1/3 octave pink noise bands. Continuous tones really tell you nothing! Al K.
PrestonTom
Point the mic at the source. Otherwise, you will have a high fequency roll off. Although with an RS meter there will already be a HF roll off. Good luck, -Tom
customsteve01
I keep it at ear level and point it at the speaker that is playing. I also use the Avia disk with pink noise and not the tones from the reciever. Steve
Tom Adams
Most excellent! Thanks guys. [H] (who said I wouldn't learn anything new today [] ) So.....now for a follow-up. What position should the meter be in if I wanted to test for the maximum sound level that is heard during a typical action movie? Again - thanks!! customsteve01
I almost aswered that in my other post. I don't know if I am right but I point it at the center channel speaker. Steve
pauln
Also, don't sit or stand behind the meter or have anything behind the meter - per the instructions it will make it read too high. You need to be holding it or mounting it is a way that allows you to stand to the side when reading it... so why did they mount the meter to be read most easily by holding it in front of yourself?
